    Mowing season

Told my wife a week ago that I will need to mowe soon. Well the monsoon season kicked in full gear so when it dries out I will probably be needing a bail it. Mowing the biggest waste of time and money there is!

I have a PH2 in 7 Rem Mag. I was kicking around the 7PRC they both have the same twist rate. I have all the dies for the 7 Mag so what would I really gain going with the PRC. Glad I went with the 7 Mag. It is very accurate.

Wife got me a Kuiu Super Pro Down jacket. I have one in camo already but wanted one for every day wear. Warmth to weight ratio is excellent. Light enough I can pack both if need be!

2024 Redman Home for Wayward Souls

Yep saw 3 good bucks at the end of first archery but didn't get with in bow range. Once gun season came nothing made me want to punch my buck tag. Going back out this weekend with the MZ then back to archery.

2024 Redman Home for Wayward Souls

That is right up Cush's alley! I had no less than a dozen of those guys on my property that I had been seeing all season....unfortunately none appeared in front of our blind. Only saw a spike hounding a herd of does across the the woods at the field edge.

2024 Redman Home for Wayward Souls

Well @JohnCushman survived yet another year at "The Redman Home for Wayward Souls"! He arrived from New York last Friday after spending time with family and trying to rid the state of it's deer. Saturday found us in a ground blind with ye ol smoke pole. Our second snow of the year had me...

    Inedible

Nope killed some old bucks and all have been excellent. I have found that the ones that I have boned out due to long hikes have been tougher than normal. Bad flavor and toughness usually has to do with meat care from the time you pull the trigger till you put it on your plate.

    Giving up tracking??

Nothing like a rotting deer corpse in your "sanctuary" attracting all sorts of critters to make all the other deer feel safe in there.

    Elk rib roll

So I just tasted the dog scrap meat pile. Well...I am ashamed of myself. I am way to.picky on grind meat with elk. From now on they will have a lot less elk meat. Grind all the rib meat if you do a rib roll! Don't worry so much about the connective tissue. Lesson learned!

    Elk rib roll

Probably should have done this with this years bull. Closest I have ever killed one to camp, only a mile. Very little of my animals go to waste spine, boned out rib cage, hide, and guts are all that stays behind. Dogs get bones and ground scraps. My wife loves liver. If the heart is...

    Elk rib roll

I have processed many elk and always do a rib roll. When I get to final cuts I painstakingly remove the meat and put in grind. Am I wasting time? Should I not worry about the fat and connective tissue and just grind it all? Never had bad tasting elk burger and never want to.

    Gal with a limp

Just now brought her in the house down the basement to thaw out. I plan on processing her tomorrow. I imagine the meat will be fine. The leg was completely healed just calloused where she would use it. I will let you know if I see anything unusual.

    Heart Stoppers

Very few things that I like pickled. Makes me have a gag reflex. That being said Grandma in Wisconsin made pickled Northern Pike that I would open the jar and not stop till it was gone! I bet pickled heart would be pretty good.

    Heart Stoppers

As an appetizer I cut a fresh heart into chunks soak in milk (sometimes egg milk mix) bread them in Andy's Cajun fish breading, put them back in the milk, and bread them again. I then deep fry them (bear fat this time) until they start to float on the oil. Call them "Heart Stoppers" because...

    Gal with a limp

No this isn't about Mrs. Redman... Been seeing a doe about every time I went out hunting this year that had a terrible limp. She always had a couple yearlings following her. She bedded by me opening morning of gun season and I attempted to see why she was limping so bad. Considered putting...
