As Elkmagnet mentioned, there is great access to Hell’s canyon via Pittsburg Landing. Overnight in Riggins and make the beautiful drive to the launch. I’ve done that exact trip with Jeff Wieber sturgeon fishing when he was booking through Mountain River Outfitters.

The best mittens I’ve used are from Kinco. Their leather outers can be waterproofed. They don’t have a ‘trigger finger’ which I prefer as it defeats the purpose of mittens. As an added bonus, they’re inexpensive and found at your local feed store.
