This is a very relatable story and experience. I "hunted elk" many years before I actually got my shot. Been fairly successful since then. So, hopefully you are well on your way to being in that top 5% of hunters that take their elk each year. Great job and congratulations on your fine...
Got her done on a small public land muley end of September with my CVA. Sure does taste good. Didn't see any big deer at all this year. Can't help but realize the number that winter kill created on these poor animals in Northern Utah. But the range was in absolutely wonderful condition, best...
Way to stick with it. Hunting in snow can be hard, but is also so much more productive in my experience. Congrats on a well earned trophy.
Oh, and remember, there is "no such thing as bad weather, just bad equipment and clothing". You pushed through and got it done. Nice work.
Thoroughly enjoyed this write up. Thank you for writing in a way that we can all imagine being there with you. Congratulations on a great bull and epic adventure.
Like I have said in other posts, I am a huge Maven fan. Jumped on the B2 9x45 shortly after the company started out. Terrific bino. Well built, fit my face well, balanced well in the hands, easy to get behind and the glass was good and comfortable. To my eyes, they were better than my Leica...
For Sale is a Seek Cimarron. Two door version in brown with stove jack and carbon pole. Used about 7-8 nights. One small patch on the tent to fix a small ember hole. Other than that, it is in perfect condition. Carbon pole, stakes and guy out cordage is included. Seams have been sealed...
I have a brother and two hunting buddies that "balked" at the pricing. Once they saw them in use, they immediately went out and bought some.
Regarding "needing more gear", I totally get that. I have WAY too many pairs of boots, socks, hunting pants/shirts etc. It is getting out of hand...
Looks like you are making this work for you. With that said, I started using these Cedar Mountain quick loaders last fall. Absolutely the BEST I have ever used, bar none. They don't give them away for free, but a couple would go a long long way. Give them a shot...
I shoot a .325WSM. Brass, and bullets can be tough to find. I have never shot a factory load from my rifle, but knew early on that I needed to collect components or I would be in trouble. I found a great load with 200 grain Accubonds, Winchester Brass and Ramshot Big Game powder. I have...
I will be toting my CVA Accura in a couple of weeks in Utah. Mule Deer on a general season ML tag in an area I love and have had some good success over the years. Excited to get up there as I haven't spent near enough time in the hills this year.
With the TC Impact, consider using a good conical bullet for elk. Something in the 300-450 grain range. Thors are a great option here, just get the sizing pack to know which version will work best in YOUR rifle. Sabots will work good too, if you stick to good bullets designed to penetrate and...
I wanted the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, ordered the Cooper Rugged Trek, and changed it today to the Falkens. Get installed tomorrow. I am sure the Coopers would work great, but I would always be second guessing myself as all of my research led me to the Wildpeaks. Hope it pays off.
