Fellow Hunt Talkers -
I recently updated my blog here with a letter I sent to my family and friends recently, if you are interested. It has some pictures of Mosul and a description of the absolute destruction there...
I am a board member in the Southeast Chapter. Send me a PM and I will be happy to give you some advice from our experience and put you in contact with the rest of the board. We are having a retreat this weekend, and I am sure the good idea fairy will be alive and well in those meetings.
I hunted it last year - verizon service provider. Zero service after we started getting off the main roads, and none in the mountains.
Next trip, we wil have a satellite phone of some sort.
Really hate that I will be missing this one as well.....will be there in spirit. Baghdad is really putting a damper on my outdoor related recreating this year.
Southern Elk - my brother is a MS member as well, but not interested in a leadership position. We are looking for someone that can shepherd the MS section, if you or one of your cohorts may be interested.
Spent a week in the Hermosa Creek Wilderness for 2nd rifle elk. My hits and misses:
Hits:
1. Seek Outside Cimarron and small stove. Damn glad we took the stove.
2. Kuiu Icon 5200 - no issues with LOTS of weight.
3. Scarpa boots using the Lathrop and Sons fitting service. Fit like I had...
This was a very good addition to our turkey day meal. Whole hind quarter off a wild hog my brother killed in south MS last Christmas...posted about them here:

The hind quarter was just under eight lbs, and I brined...
Headed out on the 19th, long drive from AL. I think I have everything set to go....sealed the seams and tested the stove on my Cimerran tent this weekend. Meals from Heather's Choice....now just need to pack everything up and make sure it all fits.
Second the Redbreast 12. If you can get it, the Redbreast 15 is a great one as well...has the taste of the 12 with the creamy mouth-feel of the 21 year old version.
I am also a fan of the Greenspot.
I kinda want to try the kidneys once, just to say I did it...but I had the exact same thought about cooking through the book.
I am going to try a new thing this year. I have been studying on how to get the most utilization out of the deer carcass, so to increase it this year I am going to...
I have a six month old daughter we adopted in February of this year. You already have the big portion of advice I would give you down - the home study. That put us at the front of the line. We worked with an agency in FL, and had a match in three weeks. The first gal was perfect...and...
We had a call with Ty about that today. The process of forming the Southeast Chapter is plunder way, with a stretch goal for official recognition in December.
AL, AR, MS, LA, TN, GA, FL. We will spin off state chapters as membership goals are met. Look for an email about this in the coming...
Damn is right, but when the Sandman is trying to close your eyes involuntarily, and seconds seem like hours, you will literally do anything to stay awake at your post.
Including dip on one side, and instant coffee on the other.......
But to make this relevant, I am a fan of the Via packs...
