Don, I have no doubt that 2 3/4 scopes have worked well for you. But I also feel very strongly that you’d do just as well, if not better, with a little more magnification. I’ve had a 1 3/4-5x as well as the 2-7x I mentioned earlier. I’ve mostly hunted out West with a 3.5-10x, but prefer more...
Unnecessarily limiting magnification. You can buy a 4-12x within two ounces of the 2-7x. With the exception of a dedicated dark timber elk rifle, you gain no advantage by topping out at 7x.
I have a 2-7x on my 38-55 and it’s even underscoped. But it is accurate and sighted in, so I haven’t...
Consider all the infected game that’s been run through a commercial processor before a person knows the results of CWD test. Does that contaminate all other meat run through there?
I whitetail hunt within the boundaries of a CWD hot zone. Currently, the nearest it’s been detected is 15 miles...
If your son is a technical person and will shoot a lot, get him a scope that he can turn turrets. If not, go with a clean, basic reticle. The B&C type reticles are fine, but again, practice with it is required.
Just curious. What rifle was he making 300 yard shots with?
Exactly what he said.
I did take my Meopta 2.5-15x to Wyoming the other day and it was ideal for open country elk. Great value in a scope, purchased from Schmalts
Aim for the bottom of the chest cavity. In the Deep South, I’ve had whitetails jump the string a bunch. Never had that problem in Kansas.
I’ve known hunters who purposely sighted in their bow low so that they wouldn’t have to remember to aim low.
Either scientist created CWD accidentally in a pen at Colorado State or CWD has always been around. At least once it spreads nationwide, we won’t have to worry about transporting big game heads across state lines.
Sounds like you’ve already got the wheels in motion for all of this, but I sure wouldn’t go through all that to bump a high three. Good luck with it. It’s nice on the other side of a career.
Was this a tag for the summer?
Watching the first episode now. Answered my own question. Great bull and good to see you two making multiple hunts this fall.
I hear you, but perhaps he hasn’t read every thread and post. I’m just saying that person could be convinced to be on your side. A small tent attitude likely won’t work.
It might be a good time to try to convince that poster that your argument is a good one. If your idea doesn’t convince here, how will it play to the rest of America?
I saw this guy two nights ago. Also saw him last year. Special talent.
