    A season to remember

That’s a gentleman’s hunting excursion, really cool. You get an elk?

    A season to remember

Reflecting on an epic season, that started here in California and hit a couple of our border neighbors. My pup Nelli is in her prime and she had the season of her career. We kicked things off in September chasing ptarmigan in the high country, finding birds around 11,000 feet. After that, we...

San Diego to N. Nevada (Chukar/Huns)

I haven’t given it any serious thought, you don’t hunt them over dogs which is a bit of a nonstarter for me. I personally believe that ptarmigan in the lower 48 deserve that title. You hunt them with dogs and shoot them at 11-12k. I shot a few in September under those conditions.

I was, they held which was unusual, typically they’re always running.

A little feather in the cap to end the trip.

San Diego to N. Nevada (Chukar/Huns)

Got into mostly Huns today, sadly lost one chukar out of my bag while hiking around.

San Diego to N. Nevada (Chukar/Huns)

Got into a lot of birds on day one in NV, mostly chukar but also a covey or two of huns. Only ended with one bird, mostly poor shooting, but they were also getting up further out than ideal. Still an epic day.

San Diego to N. Nevada (Chukar/Huns)

Took a mid trip detour and was rewarded with exceptional dog work and an unexpected valley limit.

Headed to AZ (Mearns & Scalies)

Had a fun trip, weather was great, a hair warm and I finally found my target species (scalies). That being said I never feel like I figured it out, drove 100s of miles and hiked a good portion, and finally found one covey on the last day. That being said, on the birds we did find the dog work...

San Diego to N. Nevada (Chukar/Huns)

I’m taking off on 1/1 to start off the New Year right. My pup and I have hunted NV but never as north east as we plan to go. Our goal is to get into some huns and of course good dog work. We just got back from AZ last week, so it’ll be a bit of a weather change. Curious for those more familiar...

Headed to AZ (Mearns & Scalies)

I’m taking two 20 gauges. Nothing too special, a semi (Franchi affinity) and SxS (CZ Sharptail) both with wood furnishings. I have an affinity 12 gauge plastic I take for chukar and waterfowl.

Headed to AZ (Mearns & Scalies)

Changing my plan now to do the same, will probably go further east than I have in the past. I haven’t made it a focus before, but those scalies have eluded me for at least a couple days and 10miles of effort.

Headed to AZ (Mearns & Scalies)

Never thought of that southeastern area for gambles, I have an Airbnb so I can’t roam around as much but is it fair to assume they’re in the flats like they would be in other parts of the state?

Headed to AZ (Mearns & Scalies)

Sorry to hear that on the Mearns, two years ago was great. Last year I saw a noticeable drop in covey size.

Headed out Saturday for my annual trip, anyone been out yet? Looks a little warm but we’ll make the best of it. Photos from past hunts
