Unless I am missing something, you cannot fire a permanent employee without just cause. IMO this takes time to document the failings, and give employee time to improve. Otherwise more debt as those employees sue and recover damages beyond back pay.
Look at public land management direction from a distance. Congress and now Trump/Musk holding back funding just plays into the land transfer proponents, who have been salivating over the opportunity to grab the federal land for their oligarchs own enrichment.
For a couple of decades, Congress...
Public land is the basis for many outdoor related businesses. But the hidden business benefits may be far greater. Think about businesses that chose to locate and grow their business near public lands because the owners valued them and employees were easier to find if outdoor amenities were...
That's an easy attractive example to draw people into the "business like) concept. It gets trickier when you have to graze everything to the bare ground, cut most of the forests to generate capital, lease landscapes for exclusive hunting for outfitters, close most roads reduce road maintenance...
(Zinke)said it’s “probably a long time overdue.” He also added that he’d like to see “more foresters and less biologists” on the Forest Service’s payroll.
He must be comfortable with the progress including this woman.
Mostly our Congressional representatives remain in hiding and silent as the...
Good points have been made here about weaknesses in the Damage Hunts for elk. A few years ago the FWP Elk Advisory group came up with some worthwhile modifications to the damage hunts.. Would be interested in how HTers view these suggestions. Apparently none were implemented...
At 81 I do talk to myself almost every day....until I nap. Then I get up to do something but by the time I get there I forget what I'm suppose to do, and return to my favorite chair. A good day is waking up.....and a great day is finding my truck.
I recognize that some hunters are relatively unskilled. However, most Montana hunters would be happy with one elk, and could do so relatively effectively if they had access to them. In many Montana landscapes, virtually all elk are safely hanging out on private lands inacessible to the average...
Having spent a career in the agency I could not agree more. However most of the temporary and new employees are in on-the-ground positions or close to it. That is the work most citizens would recognize as needed and beneficial. They are the employees being terminated. And if this continues...
SB 270 passed out of Committee 8-3.
Halt Galt’s Latest Attempt to Privatize Elk
Sen. Wylie Galt is at it again. This time, he’s cosponsoring SB 270, a bill that would lift the reasonable cap of three elk per hunter per year, and allow an unlimited number of elk to be shot by one person, his...
This bill SB 270 was initiated by the Montana Conservation Society.....Ben Lamb and Wilie Galt, et al. Wilie Galt, one of the largest MT landowners was responsible for getting elk tags for up to 3 in a previous legislative season. Those pesky hunters who want one elk ....be damned. Over 80%...
Having long bow hunted NZ a couple of times.......There is steep, wet, and thick....and then there is New Zealand steep, wet, and thick. Day after day....soaking wet soon after leaving camp.....then sliding down the muddy slopes and not being able to see more than 20 yards. An occasional roar...
I remember being the ONLY applicant for Idaho's first ever archery only mountain goat hunt.....about 1962 (before compounds). There were 10 permits offered.
A couple of sessions ago Missoula tried to institute a small gas local tax to go to road maintenance locally. The Legislature put the hammer down saying municipalities shall not dare do something to help themselves.
