If they are catching hatch-year pheasants, they are catching hatch-year sharptails. Hell, my dog has caught hatch-year sharpies on the opener. I struggle to see how they aren’t negatively impacting those public land birds at a vulnerable time.
Have only ice fished with a diesel heater, and I personally thought it was a pain. Was finicky, leaked in the truck, didn’t want to start at times. Idk. Plus I just hate having to deal with batteries, especially in the cold.
Have used a buddy’s Nu-Way camping and ice fishing. Simple. Not messy...
Can’t say I didn’t see this one coming.

Basically, the Acts themselves provide very little detail about how they should be implemented. The Acts generally direct an agency to develop the rules and regulations, which are then published in the Federal Register and become part of the Code of Federal Regulations. ESA rules and...
With “homesteading” being so trendy with the transplants, and Montana being perceived as the last remnant of the “Wild West”, I doubt many are going to be receptive to state employees infringing on their rights to have their unpasteurized goat milk, make their goat cheese and sell their organic...
Nu Wave propane stove is great. No condensation issues like Little Buddy, no batteries or diesel to worry about in the really cold, no worries about being in places where wood is not readily available. Battery operated carbon monoxide alarms are cheap and small enough to run two if you want...
I sight mine in during the day, but I can’t imagine hunting with it. Everything the sun hits looks hot, as does anything that is warmer than everything else around it. I personally think in most situations where you need to really search for game, being able to discern colors and fur would be...
To be fair, 622 has been used as a source population. Multiple times. But translocations can’t keep up with good recruitment either. Translocation is not to be taken lightly. The limiting factor is in the release sites, not the sources. Dumping animals in unsuitable locations where they are...
The DOI weekly newsletter to employees this week is interesting. Typically it highlights DOI’s “big accomplishments”, and is a decent pulse check of what the administration’s priorities are. During Trump 1.0, it was 90% energy/resource development stories. During Biden, it was 80% DEI and social...
Maybe? Some of the adult men have expressed such. Some of them are oil field transplants that just didn’t grow up around it. Some of them are taking it with their kids. Some of the women just want to know more but I’m not sure they’ll hunt. Some of them want to be able to go with significant...
If what I read is true, in that
1. The Refuge is the senior water right holder,
2. The Senator that introduced the bill has a direct conflict of interest, owning land downstream, and
3. No downstream water rights holders have demonstrated an impairment,
then this sure seems like a land grab...
Most ungulates get lungworms. It is not uncommon. Cattle, bison, elk, deer, sheep, goats, etc. There are several genera and species, but they don’t often cause mortality in and of themselves. They do cause lung irritation and may make individuals more susceptible to the secondary infections @Oak...
