I usually go around mid May, when the green grass gets good. This past year I decided to go in late May and early June and try a different tactic. Where I hunt bears, a lot of elk winter there and stay through calving season. Black bears are pretty good at finding calves in these places, plus...- psinclair

She made it most of the way without help. It's actually a pretty simple scramble to the top with a lot of vertical. If I remember correctly, about 7,000 feet of vertical.- psinclair

This was a few winters back. I keep track of how many of these migrants show up every winter on the Hiline. This winter I only saw one. In my experience they’re extremely hard to photograph, at least up here. The most I’ve ever counted was 57, back in the winter of 2010-11.- psinclair
