    My new granddaughter!

Congrats to you and your daughter! Will Aurora take after Gramps in hunting or firing up D8 Cats?

    Unit 28 Idaho spring bear

The units like 28 that are close to Salmon have more hunting pressure than those that involve more travel time for locals.

    Your dog’s quirk?

My Border Collie sits on the XR200 wanting another ride around the ranch and hopefully get to round up a cow or two. She rides on the gas tank and "helps" me stay on the trails.

Everything you need to know about the IDAHO Hunting and Advanced Technology Working Group (HAT Working Group)

I was not selected either. I doubt they wanted a land owner (in the middle of a prime hunting area) with over 68 years of hunting experience, interact with hunters on almost a daily basis (in seasons), observe game up close daily, attend almost all local F&G meetings, stay up to date on new...

Pedersoli Hawken Peep Sight Mounting & Compatibility

I wish I had a picture of the Lyman tang sight my dad put on one of the first T/C Renegades. He was a Smith and a perfectionist and machined the tang peep off of a Remington model 24 or 14 or ?, can't remember for sure but it was the most accurate of all T/C's I ever owned. If you can find an...

What is the nastiest place where you have found elk

Finding them is not hard when you hunt......Hells Canyon five miles down the Nee Me Poo trail or the thickest dead fall in Idaho's wilderness. But the hard part is the several trips getting the meat out on your back!

    Youth shotgun?

My sons started with a single shot 20 gauge Winchester 37-A with the rare Improved Modified choke. I think it was also called a Youth Gun. With a single shot they had to make every shot count and it made them better shots. It has taken many birds! If you can find one of them you can't go wrong...

    Reagan airport crash 1/29/25

I just talked to my Son (USAF rotary wing pilot/instructor) via phone as he flew many security missions up and down the Potomac in a chopper. At the Wilson bridge rotary wing height should be 400' and when flying the river route it should be 150' when close to Reagan airport. He is saddened and...

    Forest Fires

Grass fires were less common and easier to contain when sheep, cows, goats, and wildlife grazed the land.

What is your take on the new 7mm Backcountry?

Just another "l o n g r a n g e" cartridge that will most likely have the "barrel stretchers" cripple and waste game.

    Hunting Arrows for Traditional bow

I would shoot traditional port orford shafts with barred feathers as they are stronger than white dyed. Buy a fletcher and make your own arrows, that way you can replace a lost feather with ease. Back in the 60's I bought 200 shafts at a time from a place called Anderson Archery and fletched six...

Boom sticks are cool...but show off your bow!

I also have an Allen compound like the picture buckbull posted and three Herter's bows I bought new in the 60's.

How do you volunteer in your Community?

I contacted the local hunter safety instructor this morning so first time hunters can phone me if interested in harvesting a wild turkey on my ranch. For over 60 years I have taken people hunting or just let them hunt my place on their own for turkey, deer, elk, bear and even lion at no charge.

    Whats your shower setup?

A Folgers shower for me. A few nail holes in the bottom of your coffee can hanging from a tree and a coffee pot full of warm water!
