    Blending powders

Would his initials be "PS"? I had a PH in South Africa that blended (or layered) powders in his 7mm RM, but I've never tried it, or know anyone that has done it. I once emptied the powder in my powder thrower into the wrong powder can and ended up with some very expensive lawn fertilizer.

    Newfoundland Moose

I did a combo moose/caribou hunt in Newfoundland in September of 2019. We drove to camp from Gander, and the camp was along a new high voltage cross country power line. We basically road hunted off an ATV. We didn't see any caribou, and the 3 bull moose that we saw had smaller antlers than...

Other Big Game .... Let's see them!!!

I've only seen 2 bobcats in the wild. The first one was 50 some years ago when they were still a predator. I was elk hunting, glassing from the top of a cliff and one came out at the bottom. A 180 gr Sierra Gk from my .30-06 hit him a little high and didn't leave much of his head to have...

6 A 150 gr FMJ bullet from a .308 Win that I borrowed form from the outfitter. On a following trip I loaded a box of 150 gr FMJ bullets for my .300 Wby to use for the small critters. The last night of that trip, we sat in a hide overlooking an open area where they threw the inedible parts of...

    What are you currently reloading?

I shoot 3 or 4 rounds of Skeet every week, so I have an ongoing project every week of loading the shells that I shot the previous week. At a loading rate on my Hornady 366 loader of 5 minutes a box, that's only 15-20 minutes of loading time. A couple of weeks ago I bought a mold for 300 gr...

    NM sheep tag out bid.

I don't know if that would apply or that he was very picky for the ram that he wanted, and had the money to do it.

    NM sheep tag out bid.

Yes, a number of years ago the Montana governor's ram tag sold for somewhere in the 300K range, the buyer didn't find the ram that he wanted, so he came back the next year and bought the tag again.

The Memory Isn't What It Used To Be

Years ago I was elk hunting with a buddy. We had split up to hunt for the day and met back at his car at the end of the day. On the drive home he asked where we should hunt the next day. I told him that I thought we should bring my horses back and pack out my bull. I usually don't get...

Stock color/finish for a stainless action and barrel - ideas?

I used Krylon white "Marbelizing" paint on the stocks of several of my rifles. Here it is on the black Weatherby Griptonite stock that I modified to fit my Rem 700 7mm RM... And on another Griptonite foul weather stock for my .300 Wby Vanguard... And on 2 other Wby Vanguards in .223 and .308...

    Hunting options in New Zealand?

I started wanting to go to New Zealand when I was a kid in the '60s and reading Joe Brooks' accounts of the fishing there. Over the years my fishing interests faded to my big game hunting interests and in 2014 my GF and I finally went to the south island of NZ. We had a great trip! I booked...

Over / Under Shot Guns - school me on proper choke set-up

One big difference between Trap and Skeet is the shot distance from the shooter to the target. The longest "legal" shot in Skeet is 43 yards, with most shots being much closer than that and some being less than 10 yards. In Trap, the targets leave the house 16 yds in front of the 16 yd singles...

Over / Under Shot Guns - school me on proper choke set-up

Is that a North Dakota joke? I shot Registered Skeet for about 10 years, and other that an occasional bird hunter that only came out to the practice range to shoot a round just before bird season opened, I never saw a serious Skeet shooter shooting a full choked gun.

    Brake recommendation

When I first shot my .375 RUM I didn't have a brake on it and the recoil was so bad that I couldn't zero the scope. I didn't shoot it again until I had a KDF muzzle brake put on it, and I re-stocked it with a stock that fits me. A few years (and hunts) later I also put a recoil reducer in it's...
