And Whattaburger, and Carl's, and Wendy's and .... I don't think Oscar has ever met a burger he didn't like. ;)

No CA elk tag for me

Michale didn't get an elk tag or a premium deer tag, either. I'll have to take him out for a hog.

    AZ Prairie Dogs

Michael went through 2 bricks of 22 LR and about 100 rounds of .223. Of course, I went through 200 rounds of .22-250 and about 50 rounds of .223. (Just because I ended up keeping the Kimber handier than the .223, and the .22-250 did a bit better in the wind. I use 40 gr bullets in the .223...

    AZ Prairie Dogs

We generally go the last weekend in March and then the first weekend after June 15th. Loads of fun!

    AZ Prairie Dogs

Dan - the season closes the end of March and reopens June 15th. Nothing illegal here. The AZ Game Warden driving around woulda said something, I think. ;)

    been awhile

And the last I heard, your family was selling out the CA dairy and moving to Texas. Are you there full-time now? How much hunting have you been getting in? Weren't you starting to get into hounds?

No CA elk tag for me

Hi, John - it's been a long time! Are you full-time in Texas now?

    AZ Prairie Dogs

A bunch of friends, my 12-year old son and I went to Seligman, AZ last weekend to blast some prairie dogs. We literally had a blast. Stayed at a funky Route 66 motel (The Stagecoach 66 Motel) in Seligman because our usual haunt, The Grand Caverns Motel, was hosting a rodeo and was booked...

    Marlin Lever for Elk

I've only used it on hogs, and found other rounds better suited to shoot much past 150-200 yards. No doubt it hits hard - I just preferred something a little (lot) more flat-shooting. Maybe because I am not that good at range estimation to handle more curved trajectories. :)

No CA elk tag for me

:( It would have been pushing things a bit anyway, since my last single daughter's wedding is the weekend after the hunt I applied for.... Now we will have to wait and see if my son gets drawn for a cow tag. It is the first time he has been eligible to apply for big game here, so he has no...

    Marlin Lever for Elk

Isn't there also a .308 ME that approximates the .308 Win? I think 250 yards is kinda stretching the trajectory of the .444, but maybe with the new LeveRevolution bullets it will work better than my experience with the flatpointed bullets. The .338 ME is probably the best bet - although you...

    Sometimes they bite back

I'll have to ask those questions. Moe was in the truck behind them using the headlights, if I recall the story correctly. It may not have been full-on dark.

    Took the boy fishing

Looks like lots of fun, Dan. How old is he now? My son and I drove back from Arizona yesterday, having been there since last Thursday - shooting prairie dogs. It got awfully windy on Friday and Saturday afternoons, so hitting became a lot harder.

Here is his elephant - and his hippo -

    Ele's

Yeah, Jorge said he walked 10-15 miles a day, up to about 20 on a couple of occasions. They passed on a couple smaller bulls, had a couple/few mock charges, etc. (Some of that was while waiting for the leopard to hit the bait, and some of it was after the mauling.) The hippo was pretty ho-hum.

    Ele's

Jorge got his elephant after the leopard got a piece of him. 50 pound tusks, I believe.

    Buddy just got back

I posted the one picture I got of Jorge and his leopard in "Sometimes They Bite back" in this section. ;)
