NM Unit 13
I was completely surprised and drew the 13 muzzle tag as my second choice in NM. Anyone that can offer some tips or help, I would be much obliged. My buddy didn't draw so I'm on my own this year. I doubt that a solo hunter will ruin anyones favorite area ;) Anyone else planning on hunting... -

New Mexico credit card hit
Unit 13 I sure could use that advice about a big Bull, Cali. I drew the 1st muzzle tag in 13 this year and was completely shocked. It was my second choice. Want to help a guy out????? I'm willing to bribe, buy excessive amounts of alchohol and anything else that is required. LOL ;)... -

.270 WSM for Elk?
Andy, Sorry to be late on the thread, but I did want to reassure you that your hunch that the 270wsm will be a nice mountain gun is spot on. I carry the 300wsm in the featherweight and it has become the gun I always reach for in the safe. My wife knows what I want for my birthday, and it will... -

Gun or Bow ?

What 300mag out of the box would you suggest?
Man...I'm in love with my 300 WSM. Winchester Model 70 Featherweight. Full claw extractor, nice wood stock, Slim fore end, and she shoots sweet. Always the best looking gun in camp and everyone wants to hold it. 180's for Elk, 150's for Deer. Topped with a Zeiss Scope and dual dovetail... -

New Mexico First Timer
JDE....I hunted 23 last year. You do not want to hunt that unit unless you are a very early hunter. Place is a zoo in the rifle season. Everyone crowded in Luna. On both sides of the town. The blue...down a bit....is dry...very dry. I think it would be great to hunt that unit on opening... -

Time for the drawing game
Wyoming Question I would love to apply in Wyoming but never have. I was told a long time ago that you had to hire an outfitter if you were a NR. I prefer to hunt on my own...without an outfitter. Muzzle would be my preferred weapon. Any advice for Wyoming? Thanks Roadtrip -

How to deal with wolfy elk
Great Topic Ithaca. You make a lot of good points. I spent the last 3 years in real wolfy country north of Stanley Ideeeeho in Unit 27. When we saw wolves...and sign...we didn't see the Elk. They would avoid the waterfalls and noisy part of the river & creek and seemed to like the quiet bogs... -
