Terry - I have nothing against B'cat myself, and missed the Gathering. Next time you talk to Doug, tell him I said Hi. He did become a royal pain in the butt onhere, though, and the escapades and feuds that developed were funny to watch - from a a comfortable distance. ;)
And how can we...
I like my Savage with a 1 in 9" twist, even though I mainly shoot 40-55 gr bullets. My Savage has a heavy, 20-inch barrel. I am not sure what length the CZ has, but it is fairly short - 20-22 inches. I don;t think a .223 needs more than 22-inches and 20 is fine, IMHO. Too short, though...
A few things to consider are:
1. Do you reload? If so, ammo cost is less of a consideration. If not, then a .223 is much cheaper to feed.
2. What type of hunting? Calling in coyotes usually means the shots aren't that far (most of the time.)
I have a .22-250 Kimber varmint rifle that I...
Being the responsible one for my elderly Mom and Dad kept me here, along with job considerations and my wife's closeness to her family. The main thing now that my folks are gone is my wife's family. My daughters from a previous marriage are all over the place - Vancouver, WA; Gilroy, CA and...
I thought it was pretty good. It even showed his rifle misfiring twice. (Probably frozen water in the bolt? Congealed grease?) I was curious as they did not have tape, balloons or condoms over their barrels while carrying in the sling upright in the rain. Or is that not really needed...
Who remembers "Wild Elk," the burlap elk decoy, Chicken Little (The Sky is falling!) and Dandy the Bear? :) Not to mention "The Coalition?" Now I am glad I missed "The Gathering." It did end up like a bad soap opera plot.
Let's not talk about B'cat....
My credit card offers that, too.
I hunted the Sasabe area years ago for javelina, and saw a few Coues as well as some nice desert muleys. It did get cold at night!
I only have a Hogue on a Mini-14. It works well for that application, but I did notice that the stock tends to hold onto the fine dust prevalent in AZ and NM deserts.
I have used Bell & Carlson, HS Precision and MacMillan stocks. More Bell and Calrson that any others. They have worked...
I'm not sure how valid it is, but I was shown as a kid to place the end of the stock in the crook of your elbow with your forearm at a 90 degree angle to you upper arm and see if your trigger finger is at the trigger. Your forearm should be lying along the side of the stock with your hand flat...
I have had one for several years. Initially, the first one was great but soon developed problems with some of the buttons not wanting to function. The On/Off was the first to quit after about a year, so I just left it on. Then the calibrate and other buttons went south. (This was 3 or 4...
Honestly, none of those have been bedded. I have heard that there are problems bedding the real tupperware stocks - the bedding material doesn't want to bond with the plastic. The Edge came with pillars, and the Savage factory stock was fairly flexible - it is a varmint rifle and the heavy...
Since this action was never in a tupperware stock, I can't make any before and after comparisons about this rifle - it went from a Bell and Carlson to a MacMillan Edge. I have had Howas and Vanguards in the tupperware stocks, as well as other rifles (Savage, in particular) and the Bell and...
There were gays who served with me in VN and everyone knew they were. It didn't matter. What did matter was if you could count on them and if they knew their shit. It is wrong as far as I am concerned...but they have the freedom to be wrong and to serve.
I just wanted a lighter stock. The Sub-MOA comes with a Bell & Carlson stock, which is a step up from the more tupperware-like standard synthetic stock (which I think is a Butler Creek stock) that copmes with the regular Vanguard synthetic.
I currently have all the above in various calibers, except for the Browning...just never cared for the A-bolt. :o They all shoot well. When I reach into the safe and pull something out for javelina to elk, it is usually one of my Tikkas, either in .243 or in .300 Win. They both shoot...
