I really think it depends on the child. I started my oldest at 8. Now at 10 he has killed 2 whitetails and we are actively seeking a 3rd. But that being said, he is not a typical child. He is incredibly mature with an above average IQ and has been skipped ahead in some subjects in school, not to...
My Dad’s vintage Glenfield 30A. Which is just a budget 336 I believe. I’ve killed several animals with it and will kill more before it’s over. A new scope and a stock refinish and we’re still trucking along.
I put a YHM Resonator K on my Ridgeline 300wsm. It’s still kinda loud but the recoil is significantly decreased. Changed my POI a little but that is how I usually hunt with it.
I’ve seen this in Tikka’s before. I have a superlite 06 that shoots the Nosler 165 Accubond factory load exceeding well. The same round will not chamber in my uncle’s 06 T3X. It shoots other stuff well so he doesn’t mess with it. I would probably send it back.
I have always been intrigued by those MDT stocks. I almost put my 6.5 CTR in one before I sold it. If I come into another CTR in 308 I most likely will. Good choices.
Started our plants off as seeds in a greenhouse box on the porch this year. That and a new raised bed, and maybe 400-500 lbs of compost has made a huge difference. Starting seeds in that box saved us a bunch of money.
I’ve caught them on live bream, cut bait, night crawlers, shrimp, hotdogs, livers, all of the above. When they won’t bite one, switch it up and they will usually bite one of the others. Shrimp is usually the least nasty and works the best for us around here. That and crawlers.
I’ve had 2 700’s, a Model 7, and two Tikkas. They all shot good enough to be considered “accurate”, but one of the Tikkas is under .5 with factory ammo. The Tikka triggers are just better out of the box than the 700’s also, to me anyway. The new 700’s look pretty good and I wouldn’t hesitate to...
My uncle gifted myself and my boys a family heirloom 39A. I had another family heirloom vx-2 1-4 Leupold so I paired them up. Lots of family history in that package and it’s a squirrel killer. I love carrying that gun all day.
If that Ruger American Predator feels good to you then it would probably be my vote as I have seen a few of those be stupid accurate. But if you feel like a little bit of a project, a Tikka with a little bit of smith work would probably be overall the best option. Not sure if it would be cheap...
My son has a Ruger American in 243, not super cheap, but definitely affordable. It’s the compact youth model with the 18in barrel. It shoots hand-loads into .75 all day.
