I have been communicating via email about all this with the DOW. I'm getting some mixed information. I ran into a DOW officer in the field while performing the elk count and she told me the ground I was on is public, despite the fact that its posted. Now they are telling me the area I was on...
DeerKing,
Yes this is in the Daniels Park area. Hunting will actually be allowed there this year. But that wasn't advertised and the tags are all gone. It would have been awsome to have gotten in on the first hunt there.
Schmalts,
This area is in the same elevation range you will be hunting. Be carefull to draw any conclusions from this, however. The area I was working in is not 'normal'. It contains a resident herd that never leaves the property and hasn't ever been hunted. There are permanent water...
Due to the draught, Colorado has allocated an additional some 14,000 cow tags. Non-residents can pick up these tags for $100 provided they already purchased one at the regular price. There are unit restrictions, though. Looks like I'll have three elk tags this year!
Hey Bo... small world! I didn't know you were you either!
Yeah, will be using that tent and the one I already had. Sleep tent and cook tent... that's the ticket. Unfortunately, I only have one stove and we cook on it. So the sleep tent will get a bit chilly.
Great story, despite the unfortunate outcome. Sounds like there were plenty of adrenaline moments. I know how it feels to loose one like that.... I experienced it for the first time two years ago. And that was after the elk received a 250 grn Nosler partition!
I volunteer for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. This morning I conducted an elk count on some ground just south of Denver. The bugling was intense. I counted 22 separate branch antlered bulls, three of which were humongus (like Greenhorns). I watched four different pairs of bulls...
Regarding the following quote from the above article...
"The court also noted that Arizona allows the non-edible portions of bull elk and antlered deer to be sold in interstate and international markets. "
Can anyone comment on this? It was my understanding that it violated federal law to...
This judge sounds like a moron. Comercial market for wildlife products? Last time I checked that was illegal. He thinks this is bad cause it could lead to similar treatment of other resources in other states? So????
... this area before, you've scouted it and established a game plan for the first day. You've hiked into an area you feel has promise and have hunkered down for a while to see if anything happens.
Then, from accross the valley or on the opposite mountain, all hell breaks loose. There seems to...
Schmalts,
I agree with your assesment of the outfitter deal in NM. Having grown up in NM and now not being able to hunt there with my dad burns a little. But, its their state and up to the residents to effect change if they want to.
But regarding states locking out non-residents not being...
I save and have tanned to leather every hide. It takes a number of them to have anything decent made. I'm going to have a jacket made for the wife using the ivories as buttons.
Nope, DS... this is not on or near FR409. Thankfully, as I think that area might be burning right now.
But, between you and a couple others.... its getting as close as I want to get.... ;)
ArcMap is the primary component of ESRI's GIS suite of software. It is not free on the net... actually it is very expensive. However, there are lots of other freeware apps available on the net that, although much less powerful, can do some stuff with digital cartographic data, images, etc...
