Yeah, I wasn’t sure about that when that was my suggestion. Bummer as that would be a cool complement to your 6.5 PRC, and very effective for how you plan to hunt with it.
Can’t even find .22 ammo here in NE WI. Cabelas had 8 boxes of 300 rounds a couple months ago. I bought 6 of them and don’t know why I didn’t buy them all because I haven’t seen .22 ammo since (other than a few boxes here and there of small qty performance ammo).

I started doing some research myself for a clay/pheasant o/u. I’m traditionally a pump guy but there are some benefits to the o/u.
Found this recent review of a CZ in that sub-$1000 price point - very informative/mixed/fair in typical Ron Spomer fashion...
The Final Frontiersman. When I start to look forward to winter, for some reason I like to read and watch shows about places with MUCH harsher winters than what I have to deal with!
Well, I suppose most would say it’s a combo of everything, and I’d also guess folks would say accuracy trumps all.
I was in the same boat recently. I was using a thin jacketed bullet that was extraordinarily accurate, but I am a meat hunter so I would really need to be careful with my shot...
I had a Browning X-Bolt Hunter (matte blued barrel, wood stock) in 7mm-08 with Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8 scope. Perfect WI whitetail rifle.
I sold mine because I prefer a Rem 700 action/safety, so now I use a Rem 700 BDL - classic wood/blued barrel - in 30-06.
All of your options are solid...
Why is that, given lead ammo is copper-jacketed? I’m switching to all copper so I’m curious.
Sorry, don’t mean to hijack the thread but it seems like the powers-that-be have firmly established it’s best to hunt with a “seasoned” barrel. :)(y)
I’ve got a 1.5-8 Razor HD LH on my WI whitetail rifle, a 2-10 Razor HD LHs on my “anywhere and everywhere” 30-06, and a 3-15 Razor HD LH on my 300 WM for out west. Awesome scopes! I personally really like the G4 BDC reticle.
3-9 will get you quality for the lowest cost.
2-10 is awesome but a bit more expensive, usually
3-15 I think is most versatile but highest cost for quality
1. 30-06
2. Remington 700 (used BDL is best value for class and quality, IMO); Weatherby (Vanguard would be quality value); Howa (respect to the site’s sponsor, and they are synonymous with Vanguards)
.270, despite the fact I’ve never even used a .270 to hunt deer. I’ve used a 20 gauge, 30-30, 7-08, 7RM...and I’d have to say the .270 is the best overall pure deer cartridge.
