Mathews VXR vs Hoyt Axius vs Bowtech Reckoning

Thanks for the replies! I'm definitely going to shoot them, I just didn't think it was a must do right now. I live in a pretty big covid hot spot right now (packing houses) so I'll have to wait to actually get my hands on these. Just figured I'd throw up the message and see everyone's opinions.

Mathews VXR vs Hoyt Axius vs Bowtech Reckoning

Hey everyone, Just figured I'd throw this thread out there. I am looking to upgrade my bow. I have been researching online the 3 bows that I have listed above. I have not gone to our store here and shot these bows because of the pandemic, so just a little research and hopefully some input from...

    Traveling hunter strategy

Here in Iowa I do not really shoot past 30 yards. Where I hunt I just do not have the need for it. I could shoot further with my bow I currently have, but if I am going to be driving 1500 miles round trip, doing all of the research, taking time off working, etc I will make sure to invest in...

    Traveling hunter strategy

I do bow hunt. This is something that I've been thinking about quite a bit lately. While a bow hunt is obviously a lot more challenging, the seasons are better and as you said you have more OTC opportunity. This is a bit of a slippery slope for this thread as it probably needs it's own post...

    Traveling hunter strategy

I have not considered the UK. I was lined up for an African safari in April 2019, but that January we found out the stork would be visiting us in August and the doc said Africa was a big NO with the wife being pregnant. I'd like to try again maybe in a few years. I'll look into the UK though...

    Traveling hunter strategy

Glad my post could inspire someone! Lol. Especially a fellow Iowan. I'm just shooting for doing 1 out of state hunt a year as I don't have a lot of spare time. Keep me posted on if you have any luck or positives and negatives of your adventures!

    Grizzly Attack in Wyoming

We're rookie bear hunters anyways. Maybe I'll give it a shot out there again someday.

    Grizzly Attack in Wyoming

I was out in the area hunting bears last year twice. I think we hit bad times but are there actually as many bears as everyone talks about out there? People talked like the Ashton/Island Park area is just crawling with black and grizzlies, but we didn't see much.

    Nebraska?

If you are going to consider driving to eastern Nebraska, I'd go a little further and come to Western Iowa. Lots of deer, plus far more public land, that is if you are interested in whitetails. I've never been a fan of how Nebraska's rifle season starts during the rut. In Iowa we have shotgun...

Anyone use Bear Spray past 4 Years?

The times I've carried it, I used UDAP. I ordered on Amazon as we don't have any bears around here. I'm glad I did as prices seemed to greatly increase in hunting/fishing stores in grizz country. IMO, it's well worth having just on the slim chance you do cross a nasty grizzly. You can shoot...

    Traveling hunter strategy

Good advice! That's basically what I'm doing. Just picking something and going for it. I'm just starting, and btw got the call yesterday my hunt for this year is rescheduled for September (black bear Manitoba). I figured there are a lot of different things to hunt out there and I want to...

    Traveling hunter strategy

I have always known out of state hunting takes a lot of time and research, but if you want to do it with some regularity, wow!! Haha

    Traveling hunter strategy

I actually started this last year guys. I took two trips to Idaho last year, and was scheduled for a trip to northern Manitoba this spring until our little friend Rona arrived. Currently we are playing it by ear and I'm up for a late spring spot, otherwise we're bumping it to the first week of...

    Traveling hunter strategy

Wow, yeah you have drawn a lot of great tags. I'd need to be a little more careful as I would not be able to go to multiple states on multiple hunts per year as I just do not have the time for it. Fall is my busiest time of the year, but I am making it a point to start knocking some of the...

    Traveling hunter strategy

That's good advice. I probably just need to investigate drawing odds and all of that a little more. I'm pretty new to the drawing system as we just have OTC deer tags here

Buying on a lot vs. ordering from factory

Do not let people make you feel guilty for spending money on something. If you have worked hard enough to afford something you want, get it. If you want it to have no miles, that is not being uppity, that's just what you prefer. Saving money even when spending a large sum is also just good...

    New bowhunter

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. My dad bow hunted and loved it. He wanted me to give it a shot so I finally caved. I went to our local Scheels and purchased a Mathews Mission bow. I believe the whole setup cost me $500ish. That was a bow, ready to shoot with TruFire release. I...
