Not sure why but I can say I saw quite a few posted on social media this year. At least 5 in Montana. Never saw one in Montana before this year but could be coincidence
Hunted hard last couple days. Monday I saw maybe 20-30 whitetail does without a buck in sight. Also saw nearly 500 muley does on ag being chased by decent bucks...all in no hunting zones. Then yesterday went to Swan valley hiked around 12 miles and saw only one whitetail buck all day amongst...
I have put 1000's of rounds through almost a dozen tikkas and have never had an issue with the safety. But then again I walk around with a full mag and empty chamber. I only run the bolt once I'm ready to pull the trigger. Yes, this cost me at least one animal over the years....but Im NEVER...
I am getting ready to start loading for my Tikka 260 rem and bought a box of Nosler and Hornady brass. The Nosler is almost all around 2.011-2.017 and the Hornady is all between 2.014-2.019. Trim length 2.035 threw me off as well but I'm just gonna shoot em and let em stretch. My Tikka mag...
I used to use a bipod on my gun, which works ok but adds a bunch of weight, throws off the balance for freehand shots and gets in the way of the strap on my gun bearer sling. I then started practicing off of my pack as a rest and wont go back. Much more efficient and after some practice I'm...
I would stick around the eastern side of the Durfee hills. I got some advice a couple years ago from a member on this site when my brother in law drew the 411 rifle tag. He ended up harvesting a nice bull on private land bordering BLM. I think especially later in the season the BLM south and...
I would look for a Tikka, and I'm bias towards the .260 rem or 6.5 cals. Hardly any recoil, flat shooting and will take down most anything with the right bullet and shot placement. 7-08 is also a great choice for youth calibers.
260 rem using 129 gr sst does well for me. Havent shot an elk over 400 yds with it but it would do the job. I abosolutely love my Tikka T3X Hunter. Lightweight, smooth and more accurate than me right out of the box.
I grew up in Polson and it is smack dab in the middle of the Flathead Indian Reservation, and unless you are an enrolled member of their tribe you cannot hunt. Its too bad because there are a TON of bears in the Mission Mountains. This includes Grizzlies. If I were you, I would focus my...
Hey man it sounds like you have a good head start on reaching your goals. If one of your unmet goals is to hunt for the entire month of September...I'd say you've earned it. You will never regret the time you spend hunting, only the time missed in the field. Someday much sooner than you...
Like others have said Stone Glacier and Kifaru are probably sitting above all other competition for all things considered. Best to try them on and get them fitted correctly. I have an older Eberlestock Dragonfly with all the attachments that is pretty heavy but is indestructible. I still use...
I carry spray and a 10mm, every time no matter what. Also, "Griz country" has expanded from what many will have you believe. I have seen grizzly bears or tracks in almost all of my hunting areas over the years. There's always the exception but, I treat most good elk hunting spots as "Griz...
I walked both ways and the sign just stopped. No tracks that I could find. No idea where they went. Lol
This sounds pretty normal actually. You are probably being winded or heard and they vanish into the trees. Sign is what keeps me motivated because its just as good as seeing elk. (ALMOST)...
