Colorado archery elk unit 77 partner?

Unit 77 looks awesome on the map. It also looks awesome in person. Unfortunately, it is drastically underpopulated with elk and success rates are dismal. Maybe the winter range doesn't match up with the summer range. Whatever the reason, this type of habitat on private land would have many...

    Meat taste

I've taken 5 pronghorns, 3 bucks and 2 does. I never had any problem with the meat tasting gamey or tasting bad. Some people say they taste like sage. So what: sage is a meat seasoning. None of mine tasted like sage though, even when I layed the meat on sagebrush to keep it out of the dirt...

    Trail Camera Advice

Some of the original Camtrakker trail cameras had a day/night option. Also, the 35 mm photos were far superior to most of the digital photos taken by today's trail cameras. They are expensive to operate, and pictures converted from film to digital for processing are no good. One of these...

    Muzzleloader Help

Oil is the main culprit. In my experience, a freshly oiled bore will throw muzzleloader rounds to the right about 8-12 inches at 25 yards and up to 3 feet off at 100 yards. Not only is this frustrating, it results in many wounded animals nationwide every year. I have seen this happen with...

    Environmentalists vs. Conservationists

Conservation is defined as the wise use of natural resources. Preservation is sometimes a part of conservation. Hunters need to be strong environmentalists if we're going to have anything to hunt in a world of 7 billion people.

    Won't fire

You need a ball puller, which looks like a screw and attaches to your ramrod. It screws into the ball. Then the ball can easily be pulled out. It should work on bullets too, as long as there is some lead to tap into.

ATV for transportation in the field

A chain through 2 wheels with a padlock might help. Hidden kill switches also help. No guarantees though.

    Elk camper ?

The low-oxygen sensor on the Buddy Heater is designed to help reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The heater is only supposed to work up to 7500 feet elevation. In my experience, that is about right. I have used it at 7500 feet and it worked, but it wouldn't light at 9500 feet...

    Euro mount pronghorn?

Microwave the head for about 3 minutes. The horns pop right off. Clean the skull and shave off the cartilage on the "daggers". Dust the inside of the horn caps with a borax/alum preservative. Then glue the horns back on with horn glue or other adhesive.

    Species?

There is only one species of turkey. There are 6 subspecies: Eastern, Osceola, Merriams, Goulds, Rio Grande, and Oscillated. Yours are probably Merriams.

Wyoming, we dont want you DIY hunters.....

Do not trust Wyoming harvest statistics. I think they use common core math to come up with their numbers.

    elk roast

Cook the blood out first. 4 hours in a crock pot on low is about right. Remove roast. Dump everything else and replace with stew seasoning or boullion mixture and vegetables. Cook on low another 4 hours.

    Transportation service to trail head.

Some people I know ship their camping and hunting gear ahead of time to a UPS store. This makes the flight logistics much simpler. Then you can rent a car and pick up your gear. If this is a perennial group hunt, you might be better off just renting a small storage locker for most of your gear.

    Colorado unit 61 muzzleloader

Good luck! Maybe your carcass will bring in a candidate for my 61 rifle bear tag.

    Bury instead of bugs

No need to boil, bury, or transport to a beetle ranch. All you have to do is make a cage out of hardware cloth, tie to a tree or post, and put your skull inside. The wire prevents squirrels and mice from chewing on the antlers, but allows ants, flies, natural beetles, and other critters to...

    Arizona deer

I drew the early season rifle tag in 12A East in 2010 with 3 points as a nonresident. The Kaibab Plateau is highly over-rated. It has great potential, but is over-hunted. Don't overlook the juniper/pinyon pine areas at lower elevations. They will tell you to look up high, but there are deer...

    Hunting in Idaho at 10

Missouri allows hunters as young as 6 to pursue big game with a mentor. There is no minimum age to hunt small game. At age 11, with hunter certification, small or big game can be hunted without a mentor.

    Wolf in KY

A 90 pound black wolf was trapped in Fulton County, AR (north central ) last year. It was reported to AGFC while alive. They allowed the trapper to take and keep it. There is a legal difference though. Gray wolves are not native to Arkansas, only red wolves. This one probably came from the...

    Wyoming Area 100 Elk

Where were the bull elk in Wyoming Area100 in 2012? The published success rate was 80.6% based on harvest surveys and sampling. I find this hard to believe. I hunted Steamboat Rim/Mountain, Essex Mountain, Oregon Buttes, Boar's Tusk, Jack Morrow Hills, etc. After 7 days, I finally saw...
