My hunting buddy has a 300 Wby that loves the 180 partition Weatherby factory loads. I said we should try and duplicate that load and save him from the $90/box cost. I was surprised to find that the load that seems to have done the trick is with RL19. Even the slowest other powders would not...
168 Berger, 160 Accubond, and 150 TSX for my two 7mm's. 140 Accubonds for my boys .270 and .280. 110 Accubond for my 25-06. 100 gr Partitions for my .243.
All fly and perform well, including on game up to elk.
In my hands 7mm's regularly are sub milk jug out to 750 at the practice range...
What kind of bada$$ hounds would you use to trail wolves? The pics of the unfortunate wolf #822 mauled in yellowstone by neighboring pack makes me think no hound would have a chance. Heck, I wonder how 10 seasoned and armored pig strike dogs, usually large pits, would be able to withstand even...
Just drove from N Idaho(Coeur d'Alene), down to my home in SW Idaho near Boise. Visibility here is probably only 1/2 mile due to multiple fires upwind of me.
I have been thinking about this subject as while I was in N Idaho I noticed the thick carpet of mature pine forests with no significant...
My name in Brian and I am doing research for a lope tag my son Cory has in 42, I noticed a post re: your experience there..
Took a drive today out there and see road access seems pretty limited. Wanted to access Dick Shooter Rd(funny damn name...) off mud flat but see it's blocked off...
NE Deer Hunter,
I can't help you with the states you ask about. I myself moved to Idaho from Calif in 2004, in large part so I could finally hunt mule deer/elk. I like your strategy of getting to know an OTC/easy draw unit instead of applying randomly. While I managed to kill an elk my...
Moosie,
I know just the house for you not far away in Star, Id. Not long after we moved in in 2004, a house in the neighborhood went up for sale. We pull up the listing since at the time it was one of the biggest, it has 6 garage doors. Right there is a pic of a huge room full of trophies...
Moosie,
I have always been curious but not looked up the tax treatment on the Lease to Own. I assume you treat it strictly like any other rental until the transfer of ownership. Do you lose anything?
I might try that if I have one come empty, especially in a market like this when prices...
Good to see that the "entrepenurial" spirit is still alive and well, though decidedly more cautious.
Moosie, you and I are in a pretty similar state. I have 4 rentals, 3 mortgages and don't mind residential rentals. I am also a loan officer, but commercial not residential. Of course unlike...
3 Finger. I have spent a little time elk hunting in 44 last year but honestly not long enought to give a lot of help. We hunted on/near the Access Yes property by the dump on the North side of the hwy west of Fairfield. We saw some cows in there, but no big bulls. I will say the elk can get...
My boys drew that hunt last year. It was our first time in that country, we sure fell in love with it. Looks like it is your backyard so I'm sure you will do great. Please post pics so we can live vicariously through your son.
brymoore,
Looks like my horses may be available to help Jen haul her elk out since we drew a goose egg this year.
I assume you didn't put your Dad and wife in together so he'll be hunting bulls.
See ya monday.
Congrats,
I have not lived in No Cal for 4+ years, but outside of the Bishop area that was "the" zone. I had a high school buddy who got to hunt that back in 83' with his dad. He killed a heavy 32" 5x5 and his dad killed a 34" 4x4, but probably gross scored around 190. Great genetics.
I'm in SW Idaho and was wondering if anyone is doing more than window shopping this RE market.
I am a banker, and spent some years in Calif as an Investment Advisor so I am always amazed at human nature in times like these. The old adage of buy low, sell hi gets really screwed up when people...
I spoke with someone I would consider an insider at F&G yesterday and heard that there was some unexpected last minute turnover in the dept that handles the draw which severely delayed the data entry and we are looking at another week to 10 days.
Sorry.
I don't post much here, but having been born and raised in N Cal, I will second what BOHNTR stated re: Trinity. Go and google a little you will find some info. You might check out JHP aka Jesse's Page as they are mostly Cali guys and do some searches on hunting the Trinity Alp's.
