Great post Engman!
I have had people question me about the ethics of using hounds, If you dont like it you probably never will.... Hound hunting looks easy to someone just watching the finished product, only a houndsman knows the countless miles walked, the frustration, and the many hours...
Yup!!! Happens all the time, I always have stray dogs and cats "visiting" me. Most of the dogs get shot, the cats either live or die on their own merit. I have a mutt that strayed here 12 years ago, shes kinda likeable and not a pain, if she was she'd be dead too..
I had the same experience as bid D, except with a big whitetail. I handle every deer the same way and process it myself.....After a while just the smell of that meat would make me gag!!
Justin, Check out Coonhound centeral's classifieds, I know I have seen hounds for sale in your neck of the woods.
Buyer beware though....... Some of the adds there are a little shady, Make sure you have a good idea of what your getting.
Great pics!!! I am going to bring my camera when we start running bear this summer, maybe get some tree pics..Cant wait!!.
Toby, You said bull was a night champion, Do you competition hunt, or did you buy him?
When I was a young lad, coon prices were at an all time high, 30-40$ was not uncommon..For a 15 year old kid with nothing better to do It was like winning the lottery!! Things have changed a lot in the last 15 years, coon are worth almost nothing now So if you still hunt them, you are doing it...
Mountain boomer has some pics posted of his running walkers, if you would like to check them out....They are a little smaller and more angular than the treeing walkers.
Kraven, I just got some noslers from Dan this week, I cant tell any difference from the ones I paid full price for!.....Just thought I'd give you a testamonial
Your lucky Toby, hope she gets better.. An awful lot of hounds meet their end that way...It's strange how they can be just fine outside....and then all of a sudden, you find them like Lucy, or worse
Heck, 0 Isn't even that cold! Good luck with her Toby!
Im with you guys, I cant consistently hit much beyond 400yards.
Since I have never shot an elk, but would REALLY like to, You would probably get to see the fastest belly crawl in the history of man!!!
MN requires blaze orange but, I hate it soooo..........just between you me, and the wall, I never wear any.....of course I am hunting alone on private land.
When hunting away from home I submit to wearing the bare minnimum....oh yea, If you wash that stuff a couple thousand times, It becomes...
