Here in Minnesota there is no longer a closed season on raccoon. Since the crash of the fur market no one bothers to hunt them anymore. I guess that fact wold classify them as a varmint.
I have treed more bear than I can count, but I have yet to shoot one :(
There is a mean bear whare we hunt we call him "Earl" We have ran him for 6 hours and he just wont tree! I have seen him several times and would bet he would weigh at least 400lbs.
We have been out a couple of times now, treed a small bear last night and a couple last week. Its been so dang hot and humid here I think I will Wait a cople weeks before going again.
Hows everyone else doing??????
Minnesota has had the same management plan for 50 years ......Grow as many deer as possible and then shoot most of them every year.....More income that way
Here doe season means= shoot anything brown!
Not exactly a sound management plan!
I run Walkers, have been running bear for 4 years but mostly chase coon.(Have to drive an hour to bear country) I dont personally know anyone who has lost a dog to a bear but I have heard of it, It dosent happen too often around here.
A man walks into a gay bar,
two steps in he realizes his mistake, but figures he will just have one quick drink and leave.
The bartender approaches him and asks"whats the name of your penis?"
The man says "look Im not into any of that, all I want is a drink."
The bartender replies " everyone in...

I have had a long and bad day but this makes up for it!
Going on my first mule deer hunt!
Sorry about your son Terry, You too John and Yooper. :(
This fall your own dog will be the one doing the treeing!
I like coon hunting because you almost always can get some action:D....Bear hunting can be slow sometimes :(
Im getting ready to put my 11 month old on her first bear track next week....Im anxious to see how she does.
My dad helped me with my first deer when I was about 11 or so, of course i didnt remember much the next year so I pretty much learned everything by trial and error.
The first season I hunted coon(I was about the same age) I skinned them all up the belly! Luckily the fur buyer felt sorry...
Sometimes it goes like that John, its good that you got out though. Is there coon in your area??? (I dont mean the two legged kind) ;) Hunting coon is a little easier and less time consuming than bear, You still get to see the dogs work and its almost as much fun......;...6 hours driving on dirt...
Probably the same things my wife whispers in my ear......like a fool I believe her every time.
   Get real!
I saw on TV last night Miss Cleo can also read your fortune over the phone for just five bucks a minnute!!

9 weeks is too young to be messing with a live coon. I have trained many dogs without the use of a pup trainer, it takes more time but it can be done.
I have a 9 month old walker right now that has not yet hunted with an older dog. She will consistantly tree coon by herself, and is fast...
.....:D.........OR......You can let them chew on a dead calf ;) My dogs prefer this to ANY dog food. :D :D :D
Thumper, I think you are right about a dog needing some "real" food now and then. My dogs get thje run of the farm and have very few if any health problems compared to by buddies who...
