My buddy is hunting a dog there this year. He just made Gr Nt. last week and got beat up pretty bad in the process. drew a real rough dog, hope he heals up for next week!
Merriams turkey were introduced here but they were not real successful. I have seen a few on my farm but there is an established group of them a few miles away that seems to do real well.
Lets see.....theres landowner tags, bonus tags, bow tags.....I think I could shoot 5 deer here if I wanted to but only 2 could be bucks.(one with gun,one with bow)
John, We fill hollow logs with bait (usually cookies) stand them upright with one end burried in the dirt. On the top we put a big rock or somthing. This way we know somthing big enough to be a bear was at the bait.
Sometimes we also get lucky and rig one but most of them are run off of baits...
Whare I live there are tons of coon but no bear. Usually my dogs are real straight on coon and it takes a couple of times hunting bear to get them interested in something new.
Its interesting to me how dogs trained strictly on bear seem to be more willing to tree other game than dogs trained...
I thought this was going to be about opposums! I hate those ugly $#%%#^%* things!!!!
I also love to go squirrel hunting!

Over time the more anxious-high strung deer...
I think we influence predisposition of many species we hunt. I dont know if it is true or not but, I have heard the theory that elk have become more silent over time because of all the bugling ones getting killed off.
How the heck does a coon know not to look at the light???

DS,
"Only doninant bucks will last on a scrape line"
Not sure I understand what you mean there????
Ill assume you guys are talking about pre-rut bowhunting season. In my opinion both are a wast of time in the thick of the rut.....Find the does and the bucks wont be far behind
When does everyons seasons start?
There is no kill season on coon here so I only kill a few in the summer for the dogs sake. mid October no coon will be safe!
my 1 year old Female has treed over 100 coon by herself this spring and summer so I am real anxious for fall to come.
She also treed her...
