Have been archery hunting in all kinds of weather at or near 10,000 feet throughout the month of September since the early 1990s. Over that time period I have experienced a variety of weather and a lot of various gear. Comfortable sleeping temps are very subjective depending on whether you sleep...
Gaiters are great for stream crossings and will keep your feet dry as long as you cross relatively quickly. Did find out last year though that you want to make sure your pants don't extend down near the bottom under them in very wet conditions. Following a couple of days of rainy weather and...
I'm still using a Frostline down vest that my wife made for me right after we were married and that was 50 years ago. I use it a lot for chores around home in the winter. The snaps have worn down some but have yet to experience a tear anywhere, including pockets.
Here is another one showing how we hang our bows off the frame. The lower cord puts the bows at the same pitch as the tent canopy so they are off to the side. Use 2 j-hooks to hang each bow by the string. This setup gets the bows out of the way while protecting them.
You'll love that tent Yooper906. 13x15 should be a palace. You will have setup time cut in half once you have set it up a few times. Love the door design on these tents. We stake down a sand mat in front as I put a floor tarp down (had one custom made for the 13x13 size)-the sand mat makes a...
I'm running a GStove which is made in Norway. Stove is made of stainless steel, basically a smaller and much lighter version of the Cylinder stoves made in Utah. Workmanship on this stove is incredible and even the stove pipe (stainless also) is top-notch quality and fit. It weighs 22 lbs with 7...
I have the 13x13 that is the combo Beau Baty/Snowtrekker design. I have been packing into the backcountry of CO with my llamas every year since 1998 and have used a Davis wall tent and 12-man Seek Outside tipi over that period. They were both good setups but the wall tent took a lot of time and...
Check out Gstove of Norway. Incredible quality, reasonably priced and it and the pipe will last you a lifetime. They are nearly airtight. I believe that they now have a dealer here in the US. Cylinder stoves (the original) are also well-made. You won't need a huge stove to heat your 8x12 tent.
I take all of this with a grain of salt having seen a trend in a number of your posts that is definitely anti-government. I know Lyle well-I believe he is retired now by the way. I have spoken with him on several occasions about hunting and game management and I have a great deal of respect for...
"Bottom feeders?". Maybe you have a grudge against CPW or are just generally anti-regulation, anti-management? I'm glad that the CPW officers are out there-unfortunately they have too much area to cover and a lot of much more egregious violations go unchecked. If you have a better...
Check out Snowtrekker. They have been around for years, make incredible canvas tents that are lightweight, easy and fast to set up, do exceptionally well in wind and snow (i.e., basically alpine and Artic-worthy), and will last a lifetime. They make several different models and sizes. They come...
First podcast
Just some feedback on your first podcast from a retired public lands manager located near the tiny hunting mecca of Kremmling, CO. I feel that you were 'spot-on' Randy on all of the subjects - keep up the great work and don't hesitate to expose more of the 'clowns' out there...
