Shot this deer behind the house at 8:15 yesterday morning. There is a bigger 8 pt. around with long brow tines...actually thought that was the one that I was shooting. Oh well, this one will work.
^^^This! Agree completely regarding the Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x 44 (mine is the 172368 Firedot which is nice) from @schmalts. Have no experience with the Meopta. Good luck!
Got 2 new Winchester's this year...Model 70 Super Grade SS in .264 Win. mag, and a Model 70 Featherweight in .308 Win. Still want a Browning X Bolt Medallion, Gold Medallion, or White Gold Medallion in the Manbun or 30.06.
Definitely prefer bolt action wood stocked rifles. Also like the caliber to match the rifle manufacturer. My hunting rifles are: Weatherby Mark V Sporter in .300 Wby. mag, Weatherby Lazerguard in .257 Wby. mag, Remington Model 700 LSS in 7mm Rem. mag, Winchester Model 70 Super Grade SS in .264...
Just watching Gun Broker, more and more ammo is becoming available. And high powered centerfire rifles (bought 2 new ones this year) are becoming more plentiful from the various manufacturers, again on Gun Broker.
I used to have a 700 BDL like that in 30.06. First thing that I did was remove the iron sights (which I never used anyway) and installed the plugs as you said. Was a nice gun...had a trigger job done, and the stock shortened with a recoil pad added. Killed my biggest buck ever with that gun...
Agree totally! I now have 2 VX-5HD's, 2 VX-R's, and a VX-Freedom all with the illuminated Fire Dot's. Also agree about contacting @schmalts for great deals on these.
Congrats on the new scope...great choice! I have a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x 44 Firedot Duplex on my new Super Grade and used the Leupold steel 2 pc. dual dovetail bases with the dual dovetail steel high rings. Nice, solid combo. The gun is a tack driver.
My new Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308. Finally got the Leupold bases that I was waiting for, mounted the new Leupold scope and bore sighted it today. Probably 20 years ago, a friend that I used to work with and his wife both had Winchester Model 70's. His was a Lightweight in .243...
All set here. For the 2 rifles that I bought this year (Winchester Model 70 Super Grade SS .264 Win. mag, Model 70 featherweight .308), I bought 2 boxes of factory ammo for each. Nosler Accubond 130 gr. for the .264, Federal Non Typical 150 gr. for the .308. Ammo was purchased from Gun Broker...
^^^This! I also have a T/C Omega .50 in stainless/laminate that I bought new many years ago. Awesome rifle, never a hang fire or misfire, super accurate and consistent. I use BH 209 (100 gr.) and Hornady SST sabots (250 gr.), topped with a Leupold VX-R 3-9x 50 scope.
