NM has youth only sheep tags and ibex tags. see if the parents will front the money for you as you have to pay the full license fee up front and its not cheap.
$1700 includes shipping. Insurance would be extra. Spotter is in great shape. No scratches in the glass. I am missing the large front lens cap. I’ve babied this spotter and is a great one I’m just looking to upgrade to the larger one. Can provide more specific pics if you’re interested...
I was shocked at the odds in what used to be gimme units and mid tier units sky rocket. Hell even doe/fawn tags that have been OTC after the 2nd draw couldn't even be drawn as a first choice. its quite discouraging to have many years in and come close to drawing a mid tier tag to have point...
I had a tag in the unit upstream of yours. I spent 18 days in there over the course of 3 trips in. you are dead on about good lightweight gear is crucial. I had smoke, blizzards, and rain on my hunt so being prepared for everything is essential which is where good gear is a must have. that...
i'm changing my strategy around and trying to scale back a little so I have been applying for a ewe tag in MT to do the same and put a ewe pedestal mount next to my Idaho ram.
that was prior to the new contractor. last year it was end of may. hopefully the new contractor got all the bugs worked out and results will be available this week. but last year it was end of may.
I had that tag about 5 years ago and killed one on the NW side and killed one off range on the east side 10+ years ago when it was a yearlong hunt and it still took me several months to find one then. it can be tough hunting and very low numbers off range. best advice I can give you is get off...
my opinion on goats is if you aren't actively applying for other species in a state or don't live in a state where you can apply as a resident then you would probably be further ahead to book a hunt in AK or Canada. its a no brainer as some have pointed out you could be in $6k in just...
have they pushed the dates back any or is it still April? when I lived in NM it was way too early of a hunt unless it warmed up much earlier than normal for the bears to come out of hibernation. go as late as you can. I'd focus on the grassy slopes below the snow line. calf in distress might...
the moose calling video's (Love, Thunder, and Bull 1 and 2) that Wayne Kubat sells along with the bull magnet moose call are good resources as well.

its easier to draw the permit if you apply under the guided pool. but you can apply in the regular NR pool and go DIY. I have killed one on range and 2 off range. I can tell you that off range is a tough hunt that can take a lot of time to be successful
to answer the OP's original question....my opinion is like many others on here. AK would be your best bet. I've DIY hunted AK for caribou and blacktail deer and the adventure was a blast. If AK DIY intimidates you too much then ID is your really only other option for US moose DIY. It is...
your numbers aren't quite accurate but you are much more realistic than many "consultants" lead people to believe. in 2018 863 NR applied for bull tags and drew 62 tags. so right at 7% is what NR are up against for the NR quota. some units show much higher draw odds but in reality NR true...
i asked a buddy that's won 2 hunts at WSF. he didn't have to pay income tax since the hunts had no cash value since you were not allowed to resell the hunt. I don't know all the tax laws so don't want to argue with anyone but i'm sure the Wild Sheep Foundation isn't doing illegal stuff. but...
