The only reason I suggest trying it is because most commercial recurves are designed that way. They don't usually have a guy at the end of the line fine tillering and adjusting. He's just getting it in the ballpark for weight and even tiller.
Bear is the only exception I've seen. If you watch...
Ok. Finally got a minute to explain what I was saying better. The fact I own an actual chalkboard instead of doing this on an I-whatchamacallit might get me a little traction with Brent. 😄
Ok. So ideally a bow is 2 giant springs. To get the most efficiency out of the cast you want them to pull...
I am no expert but I've been shooting for 26 years. Seen a lot. There is actually some truth to the "avoiding the tatas." Part. I have been there when a new shooter caught a nipple with a string on release... Trying to get her to shoot again was pretty tough. Big box store clerk set her anchor...
Ah yes those people... They leave quite an "impression". Like anything else you get those guys. I had to pause for a minute to think if I've met any with traditional bowhunting. After a bit the answer was definitely yes. In fact I ran into one a week ago while bare shaft tuning my new bow at an...
Just a suggestion but Idaho tried for a while adding some muzzleloader seasons with archery only tags. One of my prefered hunt areas is that way still. Granted rifle is draw only but the idea is good. Short rifle season or longer archery season with a muzzleloader season later in the year. Maybe...
Ok. So a few buddies and me have been chatting about how some seasons are getting shorter or becoming draw only. Think Antelope. Used to be over the counter archery, then draw unlimited, now draw every other year, etc. Capped tag numbers are another thought. I can't help but see where this may...
Yes, august 1 or they re-draw the tags that are unclaimed. If you drew a rifle cow tag I'd take it and run with a smile! 16 years of bull tag, buck tag, and antelope tag apps plus antlerless extras and leftovers for over 25 years. I've drawn ZEROOOO of those that weren't unlimited as a resident...
And for the 4th time. I agree with you on crazy low odds.
On higher odds deer, elk and antelope tags a small percentage point system levels out the results.
And I still agree with you on low odds draws. Points favor 1 group.
Taking a chance at not drawing 4 times to lose a 12% chance of...
I hear that from a lot of people who generally have pulled those limited entry tags.
Lets use Mighty Mouse's graph he put up. (Thanks by the way, @Mighty Mouse) PP work best when used for a small amount of the tags. 5% to 10% and only getting them if you apply. No buying. All that does is make...
Yes! My numbers I came up with are different. Quite higher honestly. But yours aren't bad. I could see transitioning in that area.
Preference for systems will change because as time progresses the numbers change. You can improve tag distributions by changing. As I stated prior, points make...
By the way. I marked where I gave up on elk, deer, and antelope in Idaho in red. Terry drew his moose on the orange mark. His wife died having never drawn in over 40 years. There's a reason some of us are screaming the reconsider random.
Sort of... I'm just picturing in differently and not articulating it without being able to take pictures.
My bell curve in my head is 100 guys over time adding back in previous successful applicants as they draw again. The line being first time someone draws the tag. So yes you are correct but...
So that's pretty good information. But let me throw a wrench in your work just to get you thinking. Keep an open mind for a minute. Please feel free to add input. When people use random odds they think of it like 10 people 1 tag. Odds are 1 in 10. 100 people 10 tags same, 1 in 10 right?
So if...
I've got several pieces of coprolite I've polished to a mirror finish... Just takes some time and somebody who knows how to do it!
I agree. At very low odds random is the way to go. But at higher odds there's better ways to draw. Randoms aren't as pretty as they appear to be by common logic...
You guys ever actually graph out draw odds under different systems? I think it's time that everybody stop screaming and start doing the data and see what works best for everybody. Because guess what, it changes over time.
A while ago I was talking to my dad, who doesn't hunt, and I mentioned...
I actually agree, to an extent. I live in Idaho. Wildlife is always secondary to other uses here. There are areas where wildlife numbers could be doubled and no consequences. But that MIGHT affect other uses so it will never be done. I've seen dozens of antelope shot and left to rot because they...
Im
I'm assuming from the way you describe fair you are sitting on a pile of points. Dedicated in this case means you are just old enough to have been around when the point system started. If we'd all started at the same time you'd be 100% correct. Only the guys who put in every year are in the...
The "point" of a point system is to do what? What's the end goal of a point system?
To make tag drawings more fair. That's it. Mathematically there is a sweet spot for preference points where they make sense. I didn't see any complaining when you guys could plan on a nice tag every 3 to 5...
