Thank you.
I can relate to almost every word you said. i too have a 75 Finnlight. I love the palm swell. Fits like a glove. I think the Sako 85 Finnlight stock looks awful. Like octopus skin.
In .308, my Finnlight is the most non fussy and accurate rifle/caliber combination I have ever owned...
if you saw this happening, would you risk a game violation and shoot the antelope out of mercy?

I have always enjoyed reading articles by John Barsness. I first came across him in the late 1980's or maybe the early 1990's when he wrote an article about the sweet and effective 7x57.
At that time he wrote for "Rifle" magazine when it focused on fine sporting rifles like your Ruger #1.
I...
The information I am about to offer is six tears old.
John Barnsness, gun and shooting writer with a solid reputation, wrote an article comparing a Sako Finnlight with a Tikka. At that time he stated that " the premium match grade barrel on the Finnlight was worth the entire Tikka".
About that...
What the Kimber Hunter offered was simply irresistible to me.
At 5 ¾ pounds, it is the only rifle I forget I am carrying even on a long hunt. The 280AI chambering is the dream do-all super-efficient caliber I have been wanting my whole life. I highly value its model 70 style action and three...
I spent this summer load developing for my Kimber Hunter in 280AI and reloading for Sako Finnlight in 308. For the 280AI, I was working up loads with 140 and 150 gr. Barnes TTSX bullets. With the 308 I was loading 150 gr. TTSX and 165 gr. TSX. I managed to get ideal powders for both chamberings...
A revolver with a 6” barrel was new to me. I had set a 4” or less limit, as w/ with my S &W model’s 60, 13 ,15, and 629 in 44 mag,
But I wanted new handgun territory, a “horse pistol”, a double action wilderness revolver, but I didn’t want any single action.
My purpose was a handgun I could...
I do not get it? You grew up grew up using some fine classic rifles. Why would you not give your son the same privilege? Does not make sense to me?
Maybe the new ones will weigh a bit less and shoot a half inch tighter group but so what!
If he takes to hunting, he will grow into it if it...
For many years my answer was a stainless 357 magnum with a 4" barrel. Now I would opt for a Smith and Wesson model 69 5 shot 44 mag. It is built on the L frame and only weighs 37 ounces and has adjustable sights and a 4.25 inch barrel.
To my surprise the Mustangs and Mt. Goats are doing the same thing.
They are avoiding lush green areas for grazing and instead choosing to eat feed that is dry and brown
Go figure!
Two of the three mustangs on my land will let me give them carrots when they come to the water trough near my...
A friend wants to send me loaded ammo via UPS. I look at the regs and one moment it says I can, then the next pulls out the rug.
Anybody have solid experience with this issue.
Thank you
MR
It was inevitable, I guess. I just sold two guns on the internet and came away with over $1,000 that has been burning a hole in my pocket.
I saw a S and W on the internet in 41 magnum. Stainless steel 6 inch barrel. Normally I like 4 inch barrels. I already have a 357 and 44 mag.
Anybody else...
A good example of how well "subtending" can work happened to me about 15 years ago on an antelope hunt not that far from my place in Wyoming.
I had a doe tag and was driving around spotting with a close friend and fellow hunter.
We were driving on a dirt two track road and saw some antelope...
Pardon my error above, meant to say farther away. Open country and bright light tends to make me overestimate range. Sometimes critically, Subtending is my cure for that
Must be an "age issue" but I have not read about anyone here suggesting "subtending" to estimate range. Granted it is not as accurate as a range finder, but it works fast and quite well and does not require any extra battery powered gadget. All that is needed is a classic dual X scope reticle...
It took a lot of custom load development for my .308 Sako Finnlight but here is where it is at right now.
Years ago when they were a mere $40/20 I bought several boxes of Vortex .308 cartridges loaded with 150 grain Barnes TTSX BT's.
That is my long range round and it is set a whopping 4" high...
