    Regarding Beautiful Hunting Rifles

After several years of use, I’ve gotten weary of my Kimber Hunter 280 AI. To me it has no eye or hand appeal. Molded plastic stock including the trigger guard. No bottom metal, just a half plastic magazine with no floor plate. At the range the other day, a young man had two rifles. One was...

The Deeper Value of Tracking Animals, Reading Game Sign and Hunting on Uneven Land

Typically, a topic will grab my attention and away I go. Kinda like when I pick up a trail of some animal and begin following it for hours or even days. My all-time favorite hunts have been desert wilderness tracking hunts for what are called “Burro Mule Deer”. They got that name from...

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

Bad news Bikers do not buy Honda’s or Suzuki’s or even BMW’s. They buy Harley's. That is their brand of choice. Cowboys do not buy Levi’s. They buy Wranglers which are PRCA ( Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association) approved. That is their brand of choice Mass Murderers do not buy M1 Carbines or...

    Just purchased a 1894 win 25-35.

Leave as is, use it as is. Nothing you can do to it will be better that what time has done. Trying to undo time or improve on time never goes well.

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

Do firearms have “Karma” When I first began going into gun stores the only semi-autos were M1 Garand 30-06’s and M1 Carbines. Just picking one up felt right. It was like a sense of pride and goodness was in my hands. The various M1 Carbine knock-offs had no such magic. They were never held by...

When have you shot game animals on the move? What rifles have you used? How close and how fast?

i am into my deer season now. Too hot for much deer movement but I am still going out. Only saw one tiny whitetail buck. When I hunt the open country for mule deer I take my kimber 280 AI. In the thick places for whitetail I take my Sako 308 carbine. That is the rifle I trust for game on the move

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

No nothing in these two situations was contrived, real deal, real people I know. Actually, there are many more examples of conflict issues Like the woman who had a licensed animal rescue operation on 36 fenced acres. She raised an orphaned fawn deer, became a little spike buck, one day bang. It...

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

Going back decades ago, I had a group of six friends, they were also my mentors. I called them my “Wise Ones”. They were all WW2 vets. Four saw heavy combat. I could have called them my “Wise Men” but one was a woman. At age 19, Cora left her little town in Kentucky to join the WAC’s, Women's...

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

I just answered your question in my last post about the rural school teacher. Depends on who is smelling the fart. To some it does not stink at all, to others, they are gagging.

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

Access to public land lost due to hunters using semi-auto rifles

It really takes some extra gumption to go up to two guys so heavily armed and give them some serious feedback. Also, I should add they never should have even been there. The road was officially closed due to fire. To get there they had to have come in from the back way and ignored a very big...

I should add that I have had and will continue have access to hunt exactly there myself. It is great place. That steep hillside is like an amphitheater. It gets he first light and any game animals on it can see anyone coming a long way off. I have learned to walk in under the cover of...
