In early September I found this buck on several occasions and ended up with some decent still pics and a little video clip or two. Greenhorn and I found him again after he went out of velvet and he had one close encounter with the buck winning a 30 minute stare down, just out of bow range...
Compliments to you for being a choosey trophy hunter. A lot of guys talk the talk of wanting to hunt and kill only large mature animals but end end filling out on younger critters just to fill a tag.
Keep hunting with those expectations and sooner or later you will be rewarded in spades. And...
I agree with Kurt. It wont change much if anything. A lot of private land will still be leased and locked up. Rich guys? Maybe not as often, but when they do draw a license they will be able to hunt anywhere they want,(state, blm, cmr, forest service,etc..) instead of only L1 approved properties...
A couple of #3 Victor longsprings will settle that issue.....
People that let their dogs run loose dont really give a damn about them anyway. If they cared about them, they would train them to stay around.
Matt, You bring those young ones of yours up here sometime and we'll take all of them out for a couple days of prairie dog hunting. I've got some good spots..
The one bedded was the one I thought would go 170. The other one is probably low 170's max?...pretty good rams.
Be choosey and hold out till rut...then you'll know whats running around in there..the meat sux that late, but the big rams will show up to do their thing.
It's been years since I shot bird with webbed feet but would sure like to tag along someday.
Thanks for the invite!! Geese I assume?
The best deer hunting is yet to come...I'll bet you guys will get a couple nice ones.
