I can't think of anywhere to paddle on a river on the Western Slope other than the Co River below Grand Junction or Gunnison anywhere above the confluence of the North Fork, and the North fork of the Gunnison is darn near all private. I'd think I'd only want a 3rd or 4th season tag in those...
You know it's coming. Take a look at CA and no lion or bobcat hunting! I'm surprised that we still have bear hunting in this nutty libtard place. CO is becoming equally nutty, and bans are coming to you folks very, very soon.
Nice to know. I was at North Lake (above Bishop) and the 2 other little lakes just above North Lake in May, and did not see any. Will pay closer attention next time for sure.
In 280AI, I don't think you can drive a 165 anything fast enough to get it to separate on game. I shoot the 140 TGKs out my 270win guns nowadays, and they are factory from Sierra. My guns like them just fine. Guessing they are coming out somewhere about 2900 from my 22" barrels. Shot a deer...
I spend my share of time fishing above 10k feet in the Southern and Eastern half Sierras, and have never seen a ptarmigan. Can't say I look for them, but I'm sure if I saw one I'd have taken taken interest and made a mental note. Maybe I've just not been in the part of the Sierras that they...
I'm a NR hunter to CO and UT. If WY was closer, I'd hunt there instead. That being said, I'm all good with states pricing based on supply and demand and charging NR a higher fee than residents. Guess they will figure out what that economic intersection number is through increases in fees...
So I got my 2nd choice deer tag (doe) in unit 11 2nd rifle, not even close to the tag I want, but all good to get some decent meat and get my yearly CO hunting/fishing vacation in too. Can't complain with 0 preference points after burning them last year. I mainly focus on naps and fishing...
At least ya got a day in and some ocean silvers! That harbor entrance has got to be one of the most insane things I've ever seen. Guys running boats there have to border on crazy to deal with that regularly!
I go to Reno a few times a year. Can't say I'd like to live there. Long drive to anywhere too, so would be really reliant on the airport. I know you did not mention it, but Grand Junction might be a good place to check out for just about every reason you listed (except pro sports).
Range day today with the new rig. Got sighted in and started poking out to 200, 300, 400, and then started shooting groups. Used the 200gr Fed Fusion and the Choice Ammo 225gr Accubond. The 200gr Fusion shot fine, right at 1" for 3 shot groups at 100. The Choice Ammo 225gr Accubonds shot 3/4"...
I'm all good with my $30 FroggTogg suit if I need it while hunting. Good insurance and fits easy in the pack. I won't hunt in rain anyway, so only carry it just in case I'm hunting and a shower or T-storm pops up. If it's raining and expected to rain, I stay in camp.
I'd say if you've not hunted the area before, you need to glass and move often until you find fresh sign or animals standing in their tracks. There is plenty of sage flat and hills/canyons that deer won't be utilizing. After you have a few areas identified, then it's time to set up shop and...
Ouch. What an absolute disgusting shame that this happened. Sounds like something that would happen in my state. Of course in my state, you'd be charged 3x too!
I've looked both the Savage Axis and Ruger American over pretty good a few years ago. The nod goes to the Ruger American for bedding and trigger for sure, and the accuracy of the American I picked up in 270 is more than acceptable. What I do not like about the Ruger American is the plastic...
