    Vallecito Lake Campground

I was at that campground/trailhead Thursday/Friday. Gate is open, I did not check the bathrooms. It is a huge campground and I only saw one occupied site. Not sure if it is officially open or not, but looks possible. Also, the storm IS calling for feet of snow down here, though the big...

Thrift store packs for hauling meat

Thanks for the comments. After a couple rounds of thrift storing/yard sales, still haven't found the right one, and I'm thinking I can get by with my biggest (internal frame) backpacking pack. The only problem is that it is not a typical rucksack style - it has dual vertical zippers the entire...

Thrift store packs for hauling meat

Thanks, folks, that was exactly the type of info I was looking for. I should be able to find something serviceable, just in case. Burly, old internal frames are fairly easy to find around here. Thanks for the offer anyway!

Thrift store packs for hauling meat

Yep, Durangoish. Very good thrift store possibilities for well-built old packs like those mentioned by SnowyMountaineer. The new house has access to FS with good deer and grouse habitat, if only I knew what I was doing...

Thrift store packs for hauling meat

I'm in the market for a thrift store meat hauling pack. What would you look for? An old school frame pack? A big burly backpacking pack? I have a variety of packs, but mostly for going light - I'll hunt with one of my current packs but want something bigger/beefier in case I have bone-in elk...

SW Colorado? Updated w Hunt Results !

Saw a nice 6x6 the other day... strapped to the top of a car leaving the area. The snow didn't seem to make much difference around here, still very dry. No helpful tips, but I've got strong legs and acclimated lungs if you shoot something (in 74 or 75) and can't find the llamas!

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 15 - 16, 2020

Ah, sorry, I meant setting the non-resident/resident tag split rather than the actual tag numbers for each hunt code. Thanks for the clarification.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 15 - 16, 2020

If I recall, they said that decision was for the 5 year season structure process? They didn't seem super interested in discussing it, which seems fair to me as these employees have no control over that allocation.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 15 - 16, 2020

I went to the elk management plan meeting in Durango Thursday night. Parks and wildlife employees stressed that the change to limited archery was meant to give greater control of cow harvest and was not anticipated to create zones that would take many/any preference points. Also talked about...
