Welcome from Utah. There is some decent OTC elk hunting not far over the border from you in the Uintas north of Vernal and Roosevelt. Takes a few years to figure out, but you can hunt archery, rifle and muzzy. Those three season tags sell out in the first day or so. There is also a control...
Welcome from Utah. I've taken a few decent bucks in your beautiful state over the past decade or so and put in for unit 18 third rifle. Fingers crossed.
Welcome from Utah. Wyoming antelope is one of my favorite hunts. My kids and I go for doe every year and manage to draw a buck tag every three years or so. Used to be more often but point creep is making it a bit more difficult. PM me if you want some ideas on good units.
I agree 100%. I've hunted six different units over the past twenty plus years in Wyoming (non-res) with family and friends and have never spent more than three days on just goats. You will have multiple opportunities every day at decent bucks, so take a shotgun and a fishing pole, maybe a .22...
I drew 46-2 a couple years ago with two points and saw a fair number of decent bucks. There are a couple of good walk-in areas but you have to get your reservation very early. I waited until the third week, avoided the weekend and saw very few other hunters. Killed a buck in the 74" range...
Welcome Idaho. Hope to hunt moose up your way someday when I can talk my wife into letting me spend almost three grand. She just doesn't think a few hundred pounds of meat are worth all that.
Bozeman is gorgeous. I've bow-hunted elk not too far from your neck of the woods on the Beaverhead. Saw enough bears that next time will be with a rifle. Hopefully again sometime soon.
Hey Zak: Putting in for points in lots of states is a great idea. I've drawn or am near drawing decent tags in a number of places. Wish I'd started when I was your age, but better late than never. Let me know if I can help with north/central Utah.
I'm an east coast transplant and have enjoyed living in Utah for quite a while and hunting here and several other states in the Rockies. Look forward to swapping info and stories here on this forum.
Seasons have been pushed back almost two weeks from what they were two years ago, so 3rd rifle is 13-19 November this fall - lots more tags right during the rut. That likely will get a lot of big bucks killed, so after this year the quality may take a pretty good hit.
