You’re not totally wrong. I was thinking about that this morning, but out of all the people I know personally that hunt, only two of them have Swarovski glass, high priced clothing, etc. That’s just not normal for blue collar Joe in the south where I come from. Yes, many guys do have $60k trucks...
Sure it will come down, but I still think it will stay high enough to keep it out of reach for the majority. I don’t think it will ever be so cheap that it’s a first choice for most hunters after the shot.
As I’ve always heard, “Locks are for honest people.” Crooks will be crooks, liars will lie, poachers will poach, etc. Taking the tool away from someone who legitimately is desperate to find a deer they shot will not keep nefariousness and shady activities at bay.
I’m a definite YES vote after...
Many people just don’t think past the end of their nose on this kind of thing. I’ve shot and trapped a small pile over the years. The simple answer is dump them out of sight from any road or anyone who cares, on property that you’re supposed to be on. Preferably the same property the coyote was...
I read it, as I’m sure most of the other posters did. I think we’re all just pointing out that there are a lot more factors at play than just a hill. Should we make it harder on ourselves just for the sake of making it harder?
As far as getting defensive, of course, we are, lol! The title of...
It’s a different world in the east than the west. Each has its own set of issues. Whitetails aren’t elk and don’t behave the same that’s for sure, and for the most part there is no need to go deep and get away from the crowds. Like stated above, we can’t get away from roads most of the time...
I was able to go last Thursday and finally saw 2 does who caught me off guard when I was taking a sip of Dr Pepper. I never heard them and they had slipped up within 20 yards and caught me moving. Oh well, I wasn’t in a doe killing mood that day anyway.
All weekend I was on a family trip to...
Using bait is never the slam dunk walk in the park that most people think. It might would be in a place where it’s done illegally and there is only one person doing it, but whenever it’s the norm and everyone is doing it I’ve seen too often it becomes totally counterproductive. Highly pressured...
In the kill picture, it looks like the deers left side sits significantly shorter than the right side, I think he probably cheated it a tad when he was setting the antlers on the form so it did not look so far off balance, but it had the opposite effect of making you think one eye was sitting...
I personally think you’re being too picky. Compared to many many mounts I see that people post around the web that one looks good. But at the end of the day if you’re not happy that’s really what matters I guess. As someone who has done taxidermy part time for 20+ years I would say the eyes are...
I quit my first job when I was 15 as a dishwasher/busboy at a local catfish restaurant because hunting season started. I wasn’t about to give up all of my evening hunts every weekend for the entire season. They hired me back in February with the knowledge that I’d probably do the same thing come...
If the season ever happens, even being a resident the odds will be so long it’ll be like winning the power ball I’m sure.
We don’t have any in my part of the state but I’ll still be applying, and if I was ever drawn I’ll just go begging for permissions!
In deer news, I have gotten to hunt 3 mornings before work this week. They’ve been short 1 hour sits but I did finally see a fawn! At least that’s something. In Benton, Blind Bart has totally gone awol but I had some new bucks show up down in Elm Grove. Right now there are actually 3 different...
The pig hunt Saturday didn’t turn out exactly like I planned. One sounder of 12-14 pigs came into my brothers feeder and when they settled down I picked the biggest sow and let an arrow fly. It looked like a good hit but within a minute I knew it wasn’t. The pigs scattered when she ran into the...
That’s so cool, glad you were rewarded with one after sharing your bait spot with the other guy. I got to hunt bears over bait once in Canada and it was a blast even though I didn’t get one. Thanks for sharing!
Since my last post I’ve been able to get out and check all of my cams. I’ve got a few spots with regular doe activity, a half dozen 1.5 year old bucks and one 2.5 year old 8 point. With full freezers that’s hard to get excited about. Plus I don’t really have time to clean a deer this evening.
My...

I never thought I’d see this...
I’ve seen otters a bunch when I’m around bodies of water, but once I had an otter come running by me under my treestand nowhere near any water source. The closest bayou was about 1/2 mile away.
I’ve also had wood ducks fly in and feed on red oak acorns under my treestand far from water.
