Peax vs Seek teepee ⛺️ Spoiler: Bought a Argali

Can't speak to the Argalli, but with the other floor less shelters I have been in, yes mosquitoes will get in without a nest. Not sure where you are from are where you are camping but you can minimize mosquito problems with site selection sometimes. Or you could crank up a thermacell in there.

Deer Hunting: Is the .350 Legend bound to be the "thirty aught six" for the straight-wall-cartridge eastern states?

My next rifle just may be in .350 Legend. I currently have a CVA Scout in .35 Rem that does fine but I am always looking for an excuse to buy another firearm so... Most people here use the .35 Whelen during or "primitive" season. Here is what we can use during "primitive" weapon season in...

    best deer hunting cartridge

My got to nowadays is .308 Win. Easy to find a wide selection of cartridges, reloading supplies, etc. no matter where you are and performs very well overall. My favorite deer hunting round is .280 Rem with Nosler Accubonds as the bullet. I am moving toward copper bullets and the Nosler...

    Non-American land ownership

Looking at that map it looks like most of that Canadian owned land in Louisiana is going to be timberland.

Anybody else muzzleloader hunting this year

I bought a new one to go with the 3 I already have. Haven’t muzzleloader hunted in a decade. I will spend a week hunting in Arkansas with it this year. I expect there will be some western muzzleloader hunts forthcoming.

Hunt a crappy unit or stay home

Ah, I see. It may take some extra effort to give yourself the best chance. I would make sure and have realistic expectations. I would talk to everyone I could to make sure I understood if their were elk on the public during the season you drew. There may be landowners that would be open to...

Hunt a crappy unit or stay home

How are we defining a “bad” unit? That seems like it could be somewhat subjective.

    This

Congrats on the house. Mine is 15 years newer and I am in the beginning stages of a complete remodel and retrofit. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I own the house or the house owns me, but it should all be worth it in the end.

Hunt a crappy unit or stay home

I am gonna hunt regardless. If I don't get in my 50 or 60 days worth of hunting per year with a couple weeks worth of scouting thrown in then I don't feel like I am living right. I was less than that last season and I can tell it. I won't be hunting out west this season because I didn't draw...

Does Buck Harvest harm herd recovery? Studies?

Yea, I think you are probably right. I think one of those articles even points out that the effects of skewed buck to doe ratios were more pronounced in some regions than others due to deer densities, habitat, agricultural practices, etc. The one thing that seems to be pretty clear and widely...

Does Buck Harvest harm herd recovery? Studies?

I haven't came up with the study I remember yet. Had a crisis at work late yesterday. Here are some articles and one older study, all on whitetailed deer http://roberts.agrilife.org/files/2011/06/theeffectsofadultsexratioreproductionwhitetaileddeer_13.pdf...

Does Buck Harvest harm herd recovery? Studies?

I know I read a study or article with citations on this somewhere with respect to Whitetails. If I remember correctly it was found that if the buck to doe ratio was skewed enough that it caused more does to be bred during a later cycle, sometimes even a third or fourth cycle occurred if the...

Points for me. Should be in decent shape to draw the Black Hills Whitetail in the next couple of years.

Peax vs Seek teepee ⛺️ Spoiler: Bought a Argali

Completely agree. The Cimmaron was fine for sleeping two with stove and no gear. But that is only sleeping. The weather was good enough when I used it that all of the living was done outside. I wouldn’t want to be rained or snowed in the Cimmaron for a couple of days with someone else, well with...

Summer Solstice, here today and gone tomorrow

I can't figure out for the life of me why my ancestors chose Louisiana when they settled here in 1807. They were a lot tougher than me.
