Gunsmiths don’t use a torque wrench?!
Most people over-tighten fasteners. Torque wrenches prevent that. Provided the specs / sequence are followed. If you’re not measuring, you’re guessing. -

Rifle weights
Also helpful. Now I’m kinda back to square one. The 700 Mountain I’ve handled ( and shot , it’s a 260 ). I’ve hinted to him about pricing it, but I think he’s pretty fond of it. And it does shoot nice. I found a 70 in 7-08. The barrel may heat up fast on the pencil barrels, but I’m not shooting... -

I can’t find two side by side to compare, but can anyone shed some light on a Remington 700 SA Mountain rifle vs Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight. Both in same caliber , which weighs more ( or less ) ? Both seem to have a slim 22” barrel. I’ve looked for weight charts to compare but... -

Caliber suggestions.
Thanks again to all that have contributed. My goal from the git go was a lighter rifle that was something between 250 and 30 caliber , preferably short action. Deer likely the largest and coyotes and other varmints, including crows on the smaller end. Big factor is carry weight. And built in... -

Helpful replies and thank you all. And no I don’t reload ( too old and late in the game to start now ). in the past I always bought a box sometimes two when on sale just before season. Used two or three rounds to check scope zero and grouping. Then maybe a half a box sometimes one whole box... -

Caliber suggestions.
To answer earlier questions, no I don’t reload.but I do save my brass and I know someone who “ can “ load for me. But I’d hate to ask. He even offered , but I’d feel bad if something went wrong. The 260 sounds promising, as does the 257 ( kinda always wanted one ) and the 7-08 looks impressive... -

What's your favorite duck?
Great thread. Thanks for all the great photos. Goldeneyes are great looking but not so good eating. Like most , the teal family, pintails, Redheads, woodies , and drake mallards are all great. Still holding out for a canvasback. Not legal to hunt, but the Loon is cool also. Love to hear em.- OldMan50
