Your choice of caliber may be about as close to perfect for plains game as you can get... providing that you can shoot it well of course. I used a 30.06 with 180 grain Norma Oryx factory ammo on my first trip as shown here with no issues...- jeffpg

Idaho delivers again
That's great stuff! I spent 4 1/2 weeks there when I drew my moose tag in '08 and loved every minute of it. Saw tons of birds and meant to go back & hunt 'em but haven't yet. I think next year may be the time, as I plan to put a multi-state turkey hunt together to make up for all of the lost...- jeffpg

No more hunting in Botswana...
+1 I hunted a 100,000 acre private ranch in August & go back again in May. There's still some hunting off private, but with an anti hunting government, they're in trouble. The worst thing will be the effect of shutting down elephant hunting. That will be catastrophic.- jeffpg
