IDK where you're located, but here in the front range of CO every hunter I talked to said it was a really quite opening weekend. I cut some tracks and saw some poop but never saw or heard the turkeys.
This is my first year hunting Turkey so I'm still learning, down here in Fountain there's two groups of Rios I believe that travel the creek bottom. Cant hunt them but I've gone out and practiced calling them in and man do they gobble at everything, Its giving me false expectations for these...
Congrats to your buddy, I want to try SE CO but need to do some scouting first, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to that part of the state. A blind right on the road huh, I wonder if that's ever worked out for them? I think ill be heading out Wednesdasy afternoon for an evening hunt, anyone...
This last season during second rifle Elk my cousin and I hiked right past a den probably 25 yards away. Didn't even know it was there until a young black bear came shooting out and ran down the mountain away from us. I never realized the speed and power of bears until that moment.
Congrats to you guys! Hunted the Colorado front range opening morning yesterday, didn't hear a peep. Never got above 55 degrees so I think its a bit to early.
I've looked at the OnX layers here near the springs but it seems almost all are on private or residential areas. I know of a few towns that aren't on OnX, anyone know how to suggest an update and give coordinates?
I've seen cow elk during second/third rifle every time when hunting OTC Bull, the last two seasons I've had some nice weather in the begging of the week and then snow towards the back half. Best of both worlds. I hunt units along i70 for general reference.
Correct me if I'm wrong please, but while scouting for areas I looked at both Rocky Ford and Timpas Creek SWA in the Colorado land brochure and it doesn't list Turkey as a legal game animal in them. Am I reading it wrong? I've never wanted to be so wrong in my life lol
