I know this thread is ancient. But I found out the really hard way that going from 20+ years with a 3-9 to a 4.5-14 can be disastrous if you haven’t used it enough. I missed a lion and a gorgeous buck 4 times last week due to in part being flustered and more in part by having a very difficult...
If he was a real hunter he would have killed it. A free pass to save some deer and he wasted it. I don’t understand why more guys don’t have a lion tag in their pocket just in case. 35$. Most waste more than that in 1 week at the gas station on snacks and drinks.
Just walk in cautiously, pistols drawn, and if he charges you, , ,BANG! Self defense.
Also make sure you have a bear tag in your pocket in case it’s a blacky.
I only am sharing from my own experience, otherwise I wouldn’t share at all. But maybe it’s not worth much since I don’t live in Wyoming and kill 2-3 elk every year. Oh wait yes I do.
Yeah but do you really want it to take 10 minutes to die? Or even 5? Most of the country I hunt is open but there’s lots of country where an elk can easily disappear in some tall thick cover. And with little blood to trail, that can lose you an animal. That’s my point. Of course it will die!
I liked how reliable my 2010 Tacoma was. But it was a bit pathetic in snow without any lockers. I’d be stuck in snow without being high centered. Got a 2018 f150 after that. Love the comfort and power. But 7k per year in repairs was not going to keep happening so I sold it and now have an...
Out of 26 rifle killed elk, I think 7 were shot with sst. About half of the remaining were killed with core lokt and the rest with interlocks. I will take core lokt and interlock over sst every time.
Yes they’re tough suckers. But I never had to shoot an elk more than 1 time with a core lokt or interlock if it was a double lung shot. Cant say the same for sst.
Sst is a garbage bullet for elk. Tiny exits, long dying times, poor blood trails. Had an 5pt bull double lunged that took over 5 minutes to die. Only reason I didn’t shoot it again is cus he was behind a boulder and I had to rock hop to get over to it. A few others that I shot multiple times...
