Sounds like you were in good habitat. Sometimes you just don’t find them. I’d spend sometime driving around the area and seeing if you notice anything on the roads. If that’s not possible then hit that spot a couple more times and if you still don’t get into any birds go back to the drawing board.- COrookie

Plans for Dove opener
12 opening day in CO in public land. Changed things up this year and went to a different spot we had been scouting. Surprisingly few people around with a couple guys showing up later in the morning. Coulda shot a lot more if I was any good.- COrookie

Colorado....unit 007 2nd rifle
Never been in 7 but have hiked in 6 right next door. Very beautiful area. 7 Looks like it is mostly the Rawah Wilderness so the ATV is a no go for most of the unit. If you go north of the wilderness you should be fine. If you are going solo I would recommend finding a good spot for a basecamp... -

A couple more Duskys in Colorado.
Cedahm provided some great info with great pics to show the difference. In flight I can barely tell if at all. Most times its just a blur and I am focusing on getting the shot off before they disappears in the trees.- COrookie

My biggest advice is don't give up. I know that's cliché but it's the truth. It took my 3 or 4 seasons of going all the time before I finally saw a single grouse.
