    Dealing with lead cow elk?

After a week of scouting I finally started finding bulls. One in particular isn't too difficult to get to. There are about 7-9 cows, 3-4 calfs, and 2 bulls in this "herd" I've been hunting. 1 bull is confirmed legal, 4x3, and the other I couldn't tell. Opening day of muzzleloader (Saturday) I...

    Dealing with cows

I made a fence out of rope and they seem to be respecting it. They just go around the site when they pass by. They still like to walk up at night see what you're cooking tho but just shoe them off gently.

    I need Elk advice.

That's what I figured especially with it being mid September but I thought they'd already be giving out some bugles by now.

    I need Elk advice.

September 14th to 22nd so in a couple days. I attribute my success on my deer hunt a couple years ago to scouting the entire week prior to opening day so I'm doing the same thing this hunt.

    I need Elk advice.

Well I've been in my unit the last week scouting. My brother has a muzzy buck tag and I have a muzzy bull tag. I've found a ton of deer and located a few bucks so that's good to go. I've also found a few cow elk, took me a few days but the last couple days I've seen about 9 cow elk. My question...

    Dealing with cows

Well since I got a lot more responses than I thought, the update is the fence is built, and I'm currently getting ready to shovel some shit away from the fire ring. Once that's done I'm gonna put up a "no cows allowed" sign and then go glass a nearby spot I got marked on the map.

    Dealing with cows

I've got 300 feet of rope, I'm about to build a fence. Not electric, but hoping they see/feel it and at least stay out of the site. If they go around I'm cool with it. They were only in camp about 20 minutes before they moved on. Spent the last few hours since checking out other roads and...

All designated sites in this area have fire rings, I think they were eating the charcoal.

    Dealing with cows

Got and set up camp about a week early for scouting, hunting muzzy season here in Colorado. Woke up this morning, was gonna be a chill day just driving some roads, getting to know the unit, figuring out trailheads and access points to spots I e-scouted, but there was a bunch of cows in camp...

Blue/Dusky Grouse Stories and Tips Wanted!

Nice man sounds like a pretty good day out. As far as sage vs dusky I would assume the tail feathers are the best way to tell the difference. I have never seen or hunted sage grouse but I searched "Female sage grouse in flight," followed by the same search for dusky grouse in google images and...

Blue/Dusky Grouse Stories and Tips Wanted!

Looks like blue berries or Oregon grape (Can't tell which), kinnikinnick, and maybe some current leaves but really can't be certain on that either. Also sweet CVA Optima, I just shot my first deer this muzzleloader season with one of those. Nice bird!

Blue/Dusky Grouse Stories and Tips Wanted!

Well what’s interesting is I have one honey hole, when I don’t find them near the logging roads in pine I always find them in the aspens. I run a 100% success rate on that mountain the last 4 years so I know for a fact they won’t shy away from aspens. In fact, most articles you read about them...

Paddling in to hunt Mule Deer in Colorado. (Or other states).

That looks sweet and I’ll definitely throw those states in the bag. I’ll obviously look into it but for the sake of conversation how’s the public land in those states?
