    Archery Elk hunting partner

From So Dak and would be interested but need to wait until June resident elk draw to decide is Colorado is possible. Do you have unit in mind? Are you drawing muzzy without any points? I would have to draw on 0 pts.

    Preferred 300WM round

My Browning HC 300 WM ELD X 220gr. Shoots better than any round I have found. Gun does not like 180 gr Hornady. My elk was down with one round in less than a second.

Advise for new rifle in 300 win mag or 300 PRC

I have X-Bolt HC and love it. Shot tight groups out to 500-600 yds. Muzzle break helps a lot in making it comfortable to shot. Light weight also.

    Help me pick a tent

We use Kodiak Canvas 10 x 10 about $500. Stands up to wind, rain and snow. We use guide cots so sleeps 2 comfortably with room for cooler/table top, hunting clothes and buddy jr heater. Could sleep 3 but depends on cot size. Holds plenty of heat to 10-20 degrees.

    Splitting elk meat

Friend packed half of my elk out....3 trips 6 miles each trip. We split the elk 50/50. Only fair way to handle it is to offer part of the elk and he did a lot of work so deserves it in my opinion.

    First elk...

Lucky this year to get out to Wyoming 4 times, the first 3 were archery hunts resulting in 2 close encounters. Last week went back with the rifle and filled my tag. Two years ago close call in Montana so 1 of 2 so far. Expect to eat a tag or two next few hunts.

Been back since Friday. One way 11.5 hours. Going back on the 14th. 5th trip since July. Only get so many opportunities and at my age got to make the most of them. No second thoughts about going back. Will be there whatever it takes. Nobee skills but there is hope. 2 close encounters...

Is there anything that preys on pine squirrels? Can I train one to take with me on elk hunts?

Threw rocks, sticks ran at them. Failure. Only got louder and more badgering! Should have just left them alone and moved on but we were annoyed and thought we would drive them off. They win. Like the pellet gun idea though.
