Thanks for the heads up.
I am a kayaker, and for what its worth, Jackson Kayak - the parent company of Orion, is deeply committed to conservation. They are a big financial supporter of river conservation efforts in the whitewater boating community, and actively participate in organizations like...
I've not messed around with the 26 cartridge, but I did see one of Nosler's M48 Patriot rifles the other day. I was very impressed with the quality. They have developed a nice action, and they use a decent quality adjustable trigger, and good quality barrels, stocks, trigger guard and floor...
Look, I appreciate that the Nature Conservancy allows hunting on *some* of their lands in Idaho, but you really need to look at it in terms of net gain or loss of access before and after their involvement. I think it is fair to say that we've lost more than we have gained here in the Panhandle...
I guess you missed the point that in my end of the state, the Nature Conservancy's actions have resulted in a LOSS of hunting opportunity. Please don't try to whitewash that fact.
There may have been some BCHA members at the latest meeting in Hailey, but I'll bet you won't see many at meetings...
^^This makes a lot of sense.
Being successful with a DIY hunt will be difficult without putting in time scouting. Plus, there are some incredible guided hunts on public land out that require zero points. You can buy the tag over the counter. I'd check out a guided backcountry hunt in some...
I don't know the whole story behind it. There may have been a small piece of private that was rolled into the public, but a pretty good chunk of BLM land was permanently closed for hunting. It impacted both whitetail hunting on the ridges, and waterfowl hunting in the marsh at the head of the...
Blue Creek bay was closed off to deer hunting, all the BLM land around there, and it used to be excellent whitetail hunting. The point here is that access and opportunity DECREASED in both areas as a result of Nature Conservancy involvement. Yes they do allow hunting in some places, yes they...
Cougar Bay is a good example of lost waterfowl hunting. There are other properties that are managed by BLM that have easements that were brokered by NC, the Blue Creek area for example.
Like I said, pursuing their current strategy, I don't see BCHA ever being a very effective organization in Idaho. They are preaching to small choir, but don't seem well position to appeal to a broader the cross section of the hunting public that is required to gain momentum.
P.S. When you say...
It is all specifically closed to hunting, and is very visibly posted as such.
One area was a popular water fowl hunting area, the other was very a good whitetail hunting area.
TRCP and IWL are not even on the radar screen in my state (Idaho), so I can't comment on them.
BCHA has a chapter here. I would not use the term green decoy to describe them. Rather, I would say they are a small "environmental" organization that has hunters and anglers as members. For example...
I'm sure its universal. This is why its important that as hunters we police ourselves. If you see a violation, collect as much info as possible and report it. Law enforcement resources are extremely limited. They need our help.
With the intense hunting pressure in that area, and the high concentration of roads, they are probably only active at night, bedding during the day, and ignoring the hundreds of grunts and rattles they hear all day long.
I would guess with that the high number of wolves in that area, and...
Pulling the trigger on an animal is a split second thing that is impossible to practice with out actually doing it.
My advice is, take the shot you got. Don't wait for the text book, perfect opportunity, because it never comes. Real life hunting is not like in the TV shows, where the guys sit...
Trying to get down to 2, my .300 Win. Mag. for elk, and a .270 win. for everything else, and occasionally a .223 carbine for when I don't feel like packing a heavy rifle. Oh, and one muzzleloader. This doesn't include rifles I own purely for collecting value or sentimental reason.
