2 months till Opener for the King

Got out Friday and Saturday afternoons for some still hunting. I'm not very good at it yet but had multiple encounters yesterday working slowly through the woods that I couldn't capitalize on. Had does between some old farm equipment & me that were within 50 yards but no shot due to houses...

    Montana season structure proposal 2.0

Respectfully, horseshit. I know plenty of outfitters who are fantastic conservationists & stewards of the land as well as making money off of taking people hunting. I know outfitters who only think of their chances to kill things as well. There are bad apples everywhere, diy hunting included...

Anyone give up hunting other species after getting your dog?

Good hunting! She chewed through some stiches yesterday morning while I was distracted, so back to the vet. 3 more months of PT following the surgeries. We're actively plotting a sabbatical for next year. :)

    Montana season structure proposal 2.0

This is a really critical point. Both the current season structure and the proposed structure from the group allow for micro-management on the unit scale. The biggest issue becomes that the public has grown accustomed to a binary choice: Either you get the general season, or you get the limited...

Anyone give up hunting other species after getting your dog?

There are probably 200 deer across the road waiting for me to get out there. Yet here I sit, coddling a hurt bird dog & thinking about a second cup of coffee.

4 new staples, 2 more weeks of antibiotics and the return of the cone of shame. Was aiming for a sit tonight, but that's being held up as well. Tomorrow is another day. Plus, those deer could use a day off too.

A cold morning, fresh snow falling & permission across the road. In the pantheon of hunting, it doesn't get any better than that. So Greta split her incision this am. And we're headed to the vet. So, that's about on track for 2024.

Make the case for federalizing game species

7 $*)Q!#@$ pages before we get to a sig worthy comment. If you want to see your hunting & fishing license dollars go to tax breaks for the rich, or social programs, or the military - then federalize wildlife management.

Wyoming mule deer hunt with 8 pp in 2025?

Get a wooby or quilt for the blind. Keep your legs covered if you don't have a heater. Patience is a virtue. Boredom is a guarantee. Good luck!

Managed an evening sit on a small piece of public land. Only a doe & fawn - in the driveway when I pulled up. C'est la vie.

2 months till Opener for the King

The bleeding stopped, thankfully. She's moving around much better but we'll still take a miss this am and make sure pretty princess buttercup stays ok. Had a nice buck out across the road 10 minutes after last light. Here's hoping he doesn't get lead expressed!

Second TPLO performed today. The dog is unhappy with life and me in particular. She's drugged well but the incision is bleeding pretty good still. Might need to get it looked at in the AM so I'm sitting out tomorrow morning's opener for sure. Poor kid. Right when she was getting 3 walks a...

    Oh, the irony!

Once again, if there is no plan in place to asuage the legitimate concerns of pro-public land people, then it is all assumption that things will change. That is the basis of losing all of your ability and then begging for it back. From a negotiating standpoint, that's a ridiculous position to...

    Oh, the irony!

When I was a kid and really wanted something bad, my folks made me work for it. I expect the states that want transfer to happen to work to show us that they can be trusted to adequately fund and manage those lands by enacting new laws and rules that place recreational opportunities on the...

    Oh, the irony!

Feds maintain primacy on rights they currently own, hard rock or oil/gas. The state programs are in place until they are weaker than the federal ones, then the federal ones kick in. Regardless of that - you would have companies now dealing with 50 entities (states) on O&G and hard rock federal...

SD's Thune picked to head Senate

If that were the case, then Seedskadee would look like the anticline, and the Elk Refuge would look like Hoback Junction. Wyoming benefits significantly from her protected federal lands. Lord knows what the Pathfinder NWR would end up like.
