To each their own. I didn't want a Christensen. I looked at them and they are nice rifles, don't get me wrong. I had a rifle in mind that I had wanted to build since I started hunting out west. I went to the point of weighing all of the components. I wanted this rifle build to be everything that...
I built a 700 about 3 years ago. I started with a factory magnum long action receiver. I had the receiver trued, bolt fluted and a sako extractor installed. As for the barrel, at that time wait timed from most of the big names were 6-12 months out. I called Douglas barrels in Cross Lanes West...
I had a custom 700 in 7mm built for me a couple of years ago. I started with a factory action and went from there. I had the action trued and ended up having a sako style extractor added since the factory extractor would not extract. It shoots better than I can. 1/2 to 3/4 MOA easy.
I started with a Tikka t3x superlite in 300WM. I ended up with what is a Tikka widelands with the new d18 fluted barrel and a muzzle brake. I sold the stock and the original barrel and had the bolt fluted and had the barrel cerakoted black.

I hunt in 231, the next unit up and we have pretty good success. Good luck in 4th season. Tough elk hunting, but good mulley hunting. Should be close to rut. I saw some monsters last fall.

Take a look at Tikka actions. J&A outdoors has several good options. Super smooth bolt and everything that the new Remington 700 1 Alpha has at a lower price point.

I have 2 Leupold VX-5 HD 3-15x44's and I think that they are the best western scope foe where we hunt in Colorado. I have one on my custom Remington 700 in 7mm mag and another one on my Tikka T3X in 300 win mag. The CDS works great. I took my first bull in 2021 with a 315 yd shot across a big...
I have hunted here in Illinois for the past 20 years or so. I started with a Mossberg 500 in 12g with a rifled barrel and slugs. Stepped up to the much lighter TC Encore in 12g with slugs. That didn't last long. It punished you with every shot. I traded that barrel off for a 20g rifled barrel...
I hunt here in Illinois with a Savage 220 20g. It is stupid accurate. I shoots Hornady SST's and Remington Accutips like a champ with the Accutips shooting just a tad better. Check out sites like ammoseek and other online ammo dealers. You can find some good deals out there.

I like the S&W shield in 9mm. I have a 1st gen and with the Truglo TFO sights, it shoots great. It has a slim grip and the new shield plus will give you 3-6 more rounds and a longer barrel for better sight lines.

Same here. I bought one over the winter and it has continued to impress me. Shoots about anything that you want to feed it well. Stupid accurate. I highly recommend it.

I just finished my Tikka build in 300WM. Now, what ammo to shoot? I have some 200g Hornady Precision Hunter on hand. I know that I can shoot lighter bullets. What are your recommendations? Heavier yet or lighter? What ammo has been good to you? Factory loads only.

I had to use a torch to get the factory barrel to spin off. I used a Tikka action wrench and a good barrel vice with leather straps to help it hold and not spin. 100 ft/lbs was recommended from Tikka/Sako for the barrel torque for a 300 WM.

Spend the money and get an action wrench. I just did this and it made it soo much easier and it applied the torque to the action without bending it. I had to use a torch and a good barrel vice. I torqued my 300 WM barrel to 100 ft/lbs and everything lined up. I checked the head space and it was...
I have a Tikka in 300 WM with a 24" fluted semi barrel. super smooth bolt and a real shooter. I also had a Remington 700 built with a AG composites stock with a Douglas barrel from Hurricane, WV in 7mm mag. It shoots 1/2 to 3/4 MOA.
