So my first rifle was a semi-custom LR-308 (18-inch barrel) that I built for fun as I wanted something with a little more ooomph than a 5.56 platform. I used 150gr Federal Fusions (factory load) for quite a while along with SMK 168's. The fusions shot very well, I recall I was easily 1 MOA and...
Agree with addicting. You are over pressure. Really need velocity data. I am at the same stage loading my 7mm Rem Mag with new Peterson brass. I am loading both 150gr CX and 160gr Partitions. CX's are consistently grouping between 0.46 and 0.48 MOA out to 300-yds with H4831 sc at 3150 fps...
I own two Kimbers. First is a 308 Classic purchased in 2018 with a Leupold VX-6HD (3-18x44). Not the lightest Kimber available but still on the lighter side. I have taken deer from 180 yds to 315 yds and elk at 182 and 265 yds with it (only been hunting for 5 yrs so 3 for 5 on deer and 2 for...
RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit and RCBS Electronic Digital Caliper - If this is still for sale, I would be interested. I am planning to be in the Ennis area for a elk/deer hunt starting Nov 12 so could pick it up a day or two before that or morning of Nov 17.
Just received my VX6HD (3-18 x 44) from Schmaltz for my new 7mm Rem Mag. Should come in under 7 lbs, 12 oz with everything mounted. Have to wait until December to start dialing it in though. Great winter project!
Custom LR-308, 18-inch barrel, 1/8 twist. Not a tack driver but easily a 1.25 MOA setup that I can stretch out to 1000 yds.
Also a Tavor X95 - 5.56. A blast to shoot at closer range with a red dot and magnifier.
Both black ….
Agreed. Got my Hexpeak XL ~5 hrs ago with an inner nest and titanium stove. Have had nothing but great success with it through Oct/Nov hunting in CO since in all types of weather. Heard they had an ownership change so sad to see how far they have fallen.
Same. Winter pack for 5-7 day hunt averages right around 66-68 lbs not including what I "wear" (clothes, boots, outer layers, binos and harness). I weigh those too because I am a Type A.
I prefer to just ask the questions up front and avoid the grenades. Takes a lot of time for the dust to settle before anything useful comes out of it.
Otherwise, glad you enjoyed the discussion and got something useful out of it. Enjoy your day.
Definitely makes it more challenging. I have set up in wet (and dry) snow. Have had good success with deadman anchors. Takes a little more work but very doable. But they apply to any tent design, some more so than others. Haven't had the need/opportunity to stake out a tent on the tundra but...
Just about everyone has a BS problem when they talk about what their "top X" is. That's called having an opinion based on individual experience. Everyone has different experiences and yours isn't any more "right" than someone else's. Lumping all tipi tent folks into one category of massive...
OP wasn't asking about hunting Adak. Hardly applicable to hunting in the lower 48. Given that logic, hunt Antarctica and get back to me on 1P/2P cold tents. Sheesh .....
To each his own but I disagree with much of what you say. I solo backpack hunt Colorado mid-Oct through mid-Nov with a tipi hot tent and wouldn't do it any other way. I have set up in a downpour; on top of 8 inches of packed snow; been snowed on every day for 7 days, etc. I also run an inner...
Not quite all of us. Zero debt and paid the house off 7 yrs early on a 20-yr mortgage. Graduated from the school of Dave Ramsey. It can be done if you want to make it happen.
10-Deg Western Mountaineering Versalite + silk liner with the mummy as a quilt. Liner is roomy so doesn't restrict movement and still adds 5-7 deg of warmth. I leave the foot box partially zipped and tuck my feet in to keep everything together. I use a Thermarest Z-Lite pad on the ground with...
