Ditto on the saw. I cut small stuff to get things going and then transition to larger pieces to cook with and bank the fire for the night.
I put in several large pieces and that usually lasts me 2-3 hrs with the damper turned down most of the way.
I would agree with placing rocks underneath...
Yeah - I only have 8 firearms (no peanut gallery comments please) and I had to up my coverage after each one. At some point you just get a blanket coverage that covers the current count x 4 so you aren't updating every few months.
I have a VX-6HD on both my 308 and 7mm Rem Mag (3-18x). I keep them at 3x while moving and only crank it up when I am setting up on a shot. Last deer taken (308) was at 320 yds, and I dialed up to 9x. Last elk (7mm) was at 181 yds but the shooting window was really small through several...
Primary is 7mm Rem Mag, 150 gr CX, H4831SC, 3155 fps, 600-yd range
Backup is 308 Win, 165 gr TBT, Factory load but I get 2800 fps out of my 22' barrel, 400 yd range, I practice to 800 yds on both

Liner adds 5-7, and up to 10 deg, to the bag rating depending on liner. I am guessing my liner is in the 5-7 range. For me, if my feet get cold, then I really feel the cold elsewhere. Down booties give me at least 5 degrees of added rating, maybe a bit more, but that is very subjective. Next...
I went with the Versalite specifically since I backpack hunt (solo). It came down to the best compromise between added warmth and added weight. I have other dual purpose items that can bridge the gap to lower temps while still staying comfortable. Look at it in terms of your overall sleep...
I have the Versalite as well. I add a silk liner to it to minimize dirt/oils in the bag itself and it weighs next to nothing. All I do is wash the liner and I am good to go. I have used the bag+liner down to 0-5 deg and been comfortable with just my base layers on. I also use the feathered...
Late to the thread on this one, but;
Started with 308 Win (bolt for hunting, semi-auto to reach out and touch things .... repeatedly)
Just added 7mm Rem Mag for really foul weather hunting and fall 2024 Moose/Caribou hunt in BC
I do have a 1947 vintage Winchester single shot 22LR that my Dad...
I installed a JP Enterprises Silent Captures Spring buffer on my custom AR-10. Really nice setup that you can easily tune to your rifle and load. Huge improvement over standard spring buffer.
I have been getting consistently better numbers out of both H4831SC and H1000 vs RL22 for my 150 gr Hornady CX. My sweet spot right now is the 4831SC with a measured velocity average of 3155 fps and 0.55 MOA at both 100 and 200 yds. Rifle is a Kimber Mtn Ascent.
I don't hunt with my LR. Just target shooting out ~1000 yds (yeah pushing it). For that the SMKs are fine. If I had to hunt with it, I can run the factory Fusions in a pinch. I have Kimbers (308 and 7 mag) for hunting.
