My favorite was a few years ago, I got a call from FWP and they asked if I filled my B elk tag, I said "nope", and tried to let them know that I killed 2 deer, an antelope, and an elk, but they didn't want any of that information.
They should make it mandatory reporting for all big game species...
They taste fine. so do goldeneye, so do coots. Not sure why everyone is afraid to eat them. They're easy to kill so they're not as fun to hunt, but as far as taste, I think they're pretty on par with other ducks.
I still like to have paper maps. I have the hunting gps chip, which is great for when you're looking at things on a small scale, but when it comes to finding certain roads and getting a feel for the area on a large scale I find it pretty handy to have a big map rather than a tiny screen.
You don't by chance have a link to the whole article do you? I can only find the abstract, and don't have access to journals through MSU anymore.
In the areas that I have observed both sheep and goats in the Gallatin, it seems like there is more than enough forage for both species. Would they...
There's a study going on in that area right now with mt goats and bighorn sheep. http://www.gyamountainungulateproject.com/index.html
There is no definitive answer that says whether or not goats are having a negative impact on bighorns, and I doubt there will an answer anytime soon.
I can say...
Well the rams I've seen I would've at least had to use a sling-shot. Pretty hard to get in rock range... that is, unless you pay for access to "your pot of gold".
I hope people don't fall for that crap.
All of the good sheep hunting is land locked and not accessible to the public. Also, all of bighorn rams that are on public are extremely wild and will run like crazy at the first sight of a human. If you want a big ram you have to pay an outfitter, there is no other way to get a good ram in...
Uh, sounds like a roundabout way of asking, which districts to apply for...
But to answer your question, I don't think I'd focus on any one district for any species, I'd use it as an excuse to scout all over the state. I would be stressed out with a super tag, just too many possibilities.
Are you planning on winning?
Cause if not, you could probably just run the 10k. I don't think any fun run personnel will care. Or if you want to to be proper, call the race director and I'm sure you can switch.
Hahaha...
Sorry, my reaction to SLC is the exact opposite every time I go through.
Utah has some awesome places, but I can't stand SLC... but then again, I can't stand any bigger cities.
Last week I saw several muleys still holing on. Also in the same group one had a significant amount of growth.
I can't seem to make sense out of the timing of animals shedding their antlers other than the biggest usually drop early.
I bought a OR pack cover for my 6500. it is nice. Just make sure you don't get the XL. I don't know what pack it is designed for but you can fit 2 people inside of it.
My friend has the etrex 20 with the huntinggpsmaps. Works good, fairly easy to use... besides the toggle button breaking on him, but REI replaced it.
I have the Dakota 20 which as far as I can tell is the same as the etrex but with a touch screen (which I prefer)
Oregon 450 is also nice which...
I've been using the trophy taker pronghorn for the last 5 years and have never had a problem with it. If you ever plan on leaving your bow on top of your pickup and letting it fly off going 70 mph, the trophy taker will still be functioning.
The one I have isn't full capture, but I think they...
