I’m sure you already know, and I alluded to it in my last post, but be extra careful to make sure there’s no black cheek patch before you shoot if it’s a doe tag.
Best of luck, I hope you have a good first pronghorn hunt.
I’ve got a crappy old freezer that definitely has a bad lid seal if it isn’t put on right due to the lid being damaged. I double wrap with plastic wrap and then double wrap with aluminum foil and I don’t have freezer burn even after 3 years. Something to consider.
I’m a big proponent of mandatory harvest reporting. In my experience WGFD personnel get rather testy when you bring it up. You’ll then get the ol “we’re very confident in our harvest reporting, no need for a larger sample size…”
If Montana goes that route, as many other states do, you’ll have...
Having lived in both, you’re not wrong. Casper has way better hunting and fishing nearby and a lot more public land, but there’s way more sketchy people doing sketchy things in Casper than Cheyenne.
I’d certainly recommend TJos over the Bunkhouse though. TJos has way better Prime Rib if you...
Reminds me of the lady that runs the gas station in Ten Sleep. A lot of the locals would drive to Worland rather than give her money.
It always amazes me when businesses here are very reliant on non locals and then treat said non locals like absolute garbage.
Had to explain what a Texas heart shot was to my boss the other day while I was recapping a WT buck I killed a few weeks back.
No, I didn’t take said shot, obviously. I waited for the doe to lead him back towards me where he turned broadside.
He had never heard the term, and having come from...
Had to run in to get the camera and they had crossed the fence by the time I got it. But they were 50 yds broadside on my place before I moved. In season.
I didn’t put in for that deer tag this year, and I wouldn’t have shot them even if I had the tag, but it was still cool to have a bunch of...
I’ve only killed 3 elk, so small sample size….
The first was much like the scenario JLS described. I double lunged her with 180 gr out of the 06 (pass through) and then chaos ensued. She only went about 50 yards but I never saw her drop per se. She became part of the mass of elk while I was...
For steaks I like to use a liberal amount of coarse salt, pepper and garlic. Quick hot sear and then low and slow on a charcoal grill.
If you want something a little more flavorful, check out a seasoning called Chupacabre by 2 gringos. I literally buy that stuff by the gallon. It’s marketed as...
I’ve always thought limiting folks to nothing more than a good ol 3x9 scope would cut out a lot of the wannabe long range shooters and reduce wounding loss. Take away all that gadgetry that makes people think they can shoot further than they can, and make people actually hunt a bit more fair...
